I'm sure that there are some who make it sound as if that is a "threat", however that would be missing the point. If you kill someone you face the death penalty or a life prison sentence. Is my telling you that a threat, or is it simply acknowledging the reality of the situation as it exists? I could understand why you might perceive it as a threat...but it is also simply the reality of consequences for our actions.
The "imaginary hippy" version of Jesus is just a figment of your imagination. If Jesus was simply `a hippy that died 2000 years ago' he would have been soon forgotten. He changed the world as we know it because He was so much more than that. You wrote; "if he existed"? Did the Christians killed by Nero die for their belief in a "myth"?

First..it isn't a threat........it's is just stating a fact ( although some people do state it in a threatening manner unfortunately)
We all will stand before with Jesus speaking on our behalf.
And you are wrong..there IS a Jesus. Well documented. Yes He did die, but is also well documented that He arose from death and this was witnessed by over 500 people before He ascended into Heaven.
You can believe what you like. I'd love to have you join us but no one is forcing you. It doesn't work that way.
People SHOULD say that stuff to you out of concern for you instead of in a threatening manner.

First off, in my opinion (not that it matters, but you asked :-) ) is that no one should "threaten" you with that statement. I personally believe that I will stand before Jesus someday and have to account for my sins and for all the opportunities I had to witness to non-believers about Him. I would never threaten anyone with "Jesus will get you" and I don't use that for people I don't like to exact revenge upon them. The basis of my belief is that God is a loving Father that sent Jesus as an atonement for my sins, so I wouldn't have to suffer. As a Christian, it should be my desire and goal to share that message with others so that they will have the same peace I have. And it is also my belief that I should pray for those that don't believe, not that I should threaten anyone or ask Jesus to punish them. Once I present my belief and testimony, it is out of my hands, you can believe or not. If you don't, all I can do is wish you the best in life and continue to pray. Live & let live....hippy? Maybe, but I don't think so. Best wishes to you...

I'll just say this...when your time comes and you die, get back with me on whether you stood before God in judgement or not. I believe in Heaven and Hell. i believe in God and Satan. I don't toss it out as a threat, rather, just you believe what you want. In the end, maybe I will find with other Christians that we are so wrong. But in the end, we won't have wasted our lives with drugs, alcohol, murder, or things such as that. And if we are right, then we will spend eternity in Heaven with no sickness, no sadness, and everyone else who believed and lives as God asks, and those who don't believe and follow Christ will spend eternity in hell, burning in the ternal fires. Now that is not the part you will worry about. The fire will be tolerable. It will be that you'll live forever with the eternal torment of those things which torment you now. Hey...get back with me on that when Christ returns, ok?

It's the manfestation of the belief central to their existance:
Jesus exists to exact revenge on all of the people who I personally don't like.
This is their motivation for 'belief'. It's wish-fulfilment. Instead of poking saftey pins through their Barbie Doll's eyes saying 'Take that, school bully! Take that, boy who dumped me!', they do the same thing with Jesus.

I guess to a Christian, that is a threat. Since you don't believe in Jesus, you have nothing to worry about! They believe you are held accountable for all your sins and will have to answer for them when you die.

i have found that people threaten you with what they fear the most, rather than with what YOU fear. that's not very smart, really.
anyway, when someone threatens me with standing before jesus, i usually turn it right back at them. i'll say something like "so will you, and how happy will he be that you used his name to threaten me?"
LOL

because jesus, God's son, died on the cross to save us from our sins and anyone who does not believe that he didnt do this and believe in him will go to hell. they are saying that when we stand in front of him you will either go to heaven for an eternity or go to hell for an eternity.
