A king decides that his daughter is to marry. He decides to hold a race and the last one to cross the finish line will marry his daughter. Now how does he decide to hold the race without it talking forever, since the last one to cross will marry his daughter?

Make it that the owner of the last horse to cross is the winner, then make everyone ride someone else's horse, so that they will ride fast, as they want the horse they own, not the one they ride, to be last.

time limit the race and even if only one crosses the line before the time is up then technically he would have been the last 1 to cross the line. (oh and to be certain that at least 1 crosses, state that if none cross then they will be killed/sent to the tower/will marry their own horse etc.)

hmm.. he could put the line like 2 inches away from them and whoever crosses it looses and whoever is the last to cross, will win the daughter
