You say this is a serious question, but somehow I don't see it as one. As a Christian, I take my beliefs and feelings seriously and Jesus was not shot or stoned, He died a gruesome and painful death on the cross so that symbol is very important to me and holds a lot of meaning to Christians. To me it seems your question is mocking. For starters, there weren't guns in Jesus' time therefore that part of the question is irrelevant and while stoning would have been a slow & painful death, I don't think it would have bore the shame, disgrace and pain that He suffered by the cross and the beating He took beforehand. While you & I may not understand why God used the cross, He did, He had a reason and it is an important symbol of freedom. That is good enough reason to wear it around my neck and proudly display it in my home. A better question might be, why does it bother you that people do so? And as a matter of fact, people do wear stones and bullets around their necks and have them in their homes, they just don't bear the same significance. So many people want to know why Christians wear this, or say that or try to witness about Jesus--why does it bother non-believers so much?

Hypothetical questions are lost on the overly religious. Sorry but I don't think you're going to find the answer you're looking for. They cannot grap the possibility of "what if". The object whether it be gun, stone or knife would probably have been replicated and kept in a shrine in the home or miniatures kept in pockets. I think it would be much the same as with the cross.

That is a really good question. Because we did some research and the Romans hung the Jews on a stake.
The cross was used in pagan worship a long time before christ.
When the people converted from this pagan religion they let them bring in the cross and I guess the only way to justify it was to say he was hung on a cross. Which he probably wasn"t
Pictures now show them, [people] hanging on crosses.
Which he wasn't but nothing is true. There is so much pagan stuff in religion.

No. If the chosen symbol had anything to do with what killed Jesus, then Christians would be wearing a spear instead of a cross. I think it's more about the circumstances of his death, not about what killed him. And since the cross was such a big symbol even before Jesus, it would make sense that the cross would be picked to represent the sacrifice of Jesus.
(You can read about the spear at http://www.abcog.org/nh/jesdie.htm.)

he wasn't by either I'm catholic and according to what my Sunday school teacher had taught me and what her husband had told me he died on the cross because he sacrificed himself so he could save us all from our sins and i don't think he was shot because i don't think there was any guns at all..... maybe... but i don't think so and i think it would make a little sense because Christians and catholics are almost the same... and if you're christian why don't you just go to a christian church and ask the priest to answer your "serious question" which i really don't think is much... no offense but yeah you should do that it's a better resource than asking a bunch of strangers on the Internet. that's what i think.

Well personally while I am a christian I still do not agree with wearing or collecting crucifixes. The important part is not that he was crucified, and hung on the cross, but that he rose again 3 days later

People who aren't answering seriously just don't get what you said. It's an interesting question you propose. I guess we can't really know the answer. If it had been gunshot, I would doubt it. I don't know why exactly, but it's just hard for me to picture. But "stoning," since still Biblical, I guess I can picture a stone being symbolic of Christ's manner of death and can see if we had them as representations in our homes, etc., to remind us of how He died for us.

As a Christian, I believe that the cross is very symbolic, but I do not wear it around my neck. I believe that the method of death wasn't important. The suffering he went through for us, and his resurrection are what was important. I try to use my life as a symbol of his sacrifice instead of a cross or anything else.

You have the right idea that the cross is so symbolic. God never would have chosen that means of death for his son. You see, Jesus had to suffer EVERYTHING in order to save us for our sins. Being stoned or shot would not have been the ultimate death.

Probably, The crucifixion was a common Roman execution style. It was not specifically used for Jesus and the two criminals that died with him. The way Jesus died has absolutely no bearing on salvation.
