It's in the uterus with the baby, and it is an organ of the baby, not the mother.

The umbilical cord is a cord that connects the baby in the womb to the placenta (the organ which attaches to the side of the womb).
Think of it like a USB cable or something...
It lets the baby get oxygen and foods (glucose/other sugars, proteins, fats)
It lets the mother extract wastes from baby's blood.
It connects to the baby in the front USB port aka the belly button!
Actually, babies don't have a belly button while they are in the womb. They have the stump where the umbilical cord comes out and goes to the placenta, but in their tummies the blood vessels (arteries and vein) attach to the baby's arteries and veins to transfer blood.
The mother doesn't specifically have an umbilical cord. She did when she was a baby.
Once the baby is born, then the cord needs to be cut. A little clamp is put over the stump to stop the bleeding and eventually it recedes to form the navel or belly button.

The umbilical cord is the life line to the baby. It is connected to the placenta which is attached to the lining of the mothers uterus. The placenta with drawls nutrients from the mothers blood stream. Those nutrients are then passed from the placenta through the umbilical cord and then into the baby. That's how the baby survives since it can't eat on it's own. That is why it is so important to take prenatal vitamins and to eat nutritious foods when you are pregnant.

The umbilical cord is the feeding tube from a pregnant woman to her unborn child.
One end is attached to the baby's abdomen (when it's cut off, it makes the navel, or bellybutton) and the other end is attached to a mass on the mother's uturus wall call the placenta.
After the baby is born, the placenta is released from the uterus, and expelled from the mother's body. The umbilical cord (or umbilicus) is cut, and tied off on the baby. The remainder of the umbilical cord and the placenta are disposed of as medical waste.
