I have a puppy who is getting done this month and my boyfriend refuses to let me take our older dog too, is it unfair or is it the right thing to do?

Getting a dog neutered is absolutely the right thing to do. I don't now why men get so hung up on the testicals of dogs. If dogs could control themselves when it comes to procreating, that would be another story. But they can't. It's an instinct. So we, the species who created domestic dogs in the first place, need to step in and control the dog population by neutering.

Just tell your boyfriend that you'll have HIM neutered if he doesn't stop being such a big baby!

Why is it that whenever a woman talks about neutering a dog around some men, you'd think the vet was going to strap the man to the table and castrate them? Women rarely think the same about spaying a female dog.

My husband was the same way initially about our shepherds. There was no way I would ever have an intact pet, male or female. I compromised. We waited until 10 months old to neuter them instead having it done at six months, but we did it. Between the ages of six and ten months, they were watched constantly, never off leash, and our yard is locked.

Our shepherds are beautiful, healthy, well-adjusted dogs who will guard you with their lives. (Hint* The neutering has not affected their ability to protect us). They don't, however, want to break out of the yard to get at the females in heat. They don't mark everything in the house. And they won't develop the testicular cancer that my dachshund had when I was a kid.

If you are not going to breed them (and by breeding I mean the right, responsible way, which very few people do), there is no reason NOT to neuter a 2 year old dog. Good Luck!

I'm gonna tell you exactly what to do:

Neuter the dog as it will be best for all sides... the dog won't be agresive anymore, he will not mark his teritory in the house and he will be much more playful... The good thing is that your dog won't even notice he dosen't have any balls left... he'll only be hapier. I know for a fact that my cat after been neuterd has been much more happy.

So I say the sooner the better, tell your boyfriend to stop being so messed up about the situation, besides the dog won't even feel a thing during surgery

This is the right thing to do. With the amount of unwanted dogs sitting in shelters you should not even have to ask this question. I recommend the you give both of them the snip snip.

Sounds like your boyfriend is projecting his own masculinity onto that 2 year old dog. He needs to get over it and realise his dog could contribute to the massive unwanted dog population in the world.

Having the two canines neutered is the stunning element to do...the older canines might ultimately meet up with a intense high quality female pup and then there are greater undesirable doggies in this international, or they finally end up with morons who do no longer preserve them! Have your older canines 'fixed' at present...that's the kinder element to do. except your boyfriend plans to have the older canines 'shown' as a organic breed in a contest/coach, he's misguided in no longer having him fixed!

The 2 year old should be fixed as well. Less chance of developing cancer later on, less marking in the house, better behavior, no roaming to find females in heat.

It will not harm the older dog at all. And it will save you both a lot of trouble (marking territory, anyone?).

No reason not to have it done, I've had senior males neutered with no problems.
