Your best bet is cash. The places where you are going to get unique souvenirs and not just traditional-run-of-the-mill souveniers like everyone else is at the little side stores that will probably only take cash.

You can buy travelers cheques then just cash them in as you need them on the ship if you don't want to carry all the cash in hand. Your room should have a safe too.

Happy cruising!

i've cruised to there. either way.... hold onto your purse. in jamica especially. call ur credit card company too probably so they know you're going out of the country and not someone stealing it. that way if you choose that then you will not have it rejected. it just all depends on the amount of the souvenier. what cruise line? is it royal caribbean??? thats the one i went on ? well i hope you have a good time!!!

I went on the carnival cruise to jamaica, grand cayman, and cozumel. They are such tourist sites that they accept US currency and they are very nice about it. Ecspecially in mexico.

The Caymans are beautiful! I stayed on the beach!
jamaica seemed dirty...dont stay by the port! Go on an excursion for sure!
Cozumel was drinking and shopping and drinking and beach!

depends on what you are buying.

little items, small souveniers from vendor stalls or small shops may not take credit cards, carry cash.
but most other shops and stores will take credit cards. they deal with thousands of US tourists and want their money - so they want to make it as easy as possible to spend it.

don't use credit??? you'll get absolutely killed on the exchange rate. Just get local currency or use US dollars (and make sure you can do the math in your head so you're not getting ripped off)
