Clearly you havent read a bible.
I am not a Christian but I have read it - no such statement is made. It is right of you to challenge religion to its foundations. But do try to do that with fact.

If God is powerful enough to create all that is from nothing, and to be the one to create all donkeys, why would it be so hard to believe that God can make the donkey talk? My thought is that you don't think of God as He really is. You think of Him as much more impotent than He is.

By the way, "if the old testament doesn't apply" makes no sense. Doesn't apply to what? If Atheists aren't fools, then why do they spend so much of their time in forums trying to enforce their views on people who don't want to hear them? And when people disagree with them, they have to call us names just because we disagree. How do you define fool, anyway?

Of course! I also believe snakes talked, people walked on water, people lived to be 900 years old, the tower of babel created all the languages, that it's possible to cram every living species on a boat, that angels can be wrestled, people can turn into pillars of salt, that humans can be conceived without sex.. should I go on? (Yes, I'm being sarcastic)

LOL... Not to be mean but I think the bible is an insult to people's intelligence. I say that with all due respect.. I just can't honestly go by "faith" that all these happened (I used to be a Christian!), NONE of these things happen nowadays and NONE of these things are even physically possible. (Well, ok, ok...the immaculate conception COULD happen now but only with intro-vitro fertilization and I highly doubt they had sperm banks back then.)

The way I read that scripture in Numbers is that the Angel talked while the donkeys mouth was moving.
