I'm not offended by the upside down flag avatars. And yes,it does make it difficult to find someone when they change their avatar, for a little while anyway.

An upside down flag is a symbol of distress.
People creating upside down flag avatars are just using their freedom of expression to show their feelings that the nation is in distress.
Look around you -- the Nation IS IN DISTRESS.
The United States is the richest country in the world yet:
- we do not have state run health care, and many people go bankrupt because they cannot pay their medical bills.
- we have children who go to school without breakfast and go to bed without supper EVERYDAY!
- we have elderly people living on dog or cat food because they cannot afford to buy groceries
- we have homeless people walking the streets of EVERY city and many small towns.
- our government is a bully who believes going to war with a country will make that country do what we want (such as give us their oil)
- we have youths joining the armed forces in hopes that they will be able to get a college education out of it, and dying in foreign countries before they are 21 years old
- we have extreme racial disparity in our prison systems
- we have extreme racial disparity in our economic and power structure
- we have failing schools
- we have underfunded education system
- children are suffering from lead poisoning
- children are being housed in school buidlings that are falling apart
If these are not the signs of a nation in distress, I do not know what are.

No, everyone has a right to their opinions and some of them don't think of it as a bad thing just unique... as for finding someone who changes their avatar: if you have answered one of their questions or they have answered yours it shouldn't be too hard but yes harder than if they just stayed the same.

No, I am a conservative and nothing offends a true conservative. We stand proud and strong without letting opposing views affect our stability in life.
Do I think it is stupid to fly the American flag upside down? Yes, but stupidity never hurt anyone but Monica.

No, turning the American flag upside down is a sign of distress..... people who do that on Yahoo are distressed and fairly stupid.
It alerts me as to what kind of person is asking or answering a question....

I think it's pretty sad, you got people out there with no clue on what they're talking about, the rhetoric's all the same, some of it gets pretty insulting, the net result of that thinking though is they're going to end up reinforcing the anti-illegal standpoint, which may very well be the goal, here...this whole issue's gotten really really stupid...

Though it bothers me to see the Flag disrespected, this is still a free Country and people have the right to act like morons.

Nope, i don't but many people are too soft, and any picture would make them angry, confused and will bring the bigotry out of them.
Do you remember when Marylin Manson wiped his butt with the American Flag, where were all the people who complain then?
Oh and take a look at this picture, then tell me who's being disrespectful. http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/-/e/bush_flag_desecration.jpg
