OK folks, the "Ark" has not been found, bits of wood dating to a much earlier time have been found.

As for proving that George Washington existed, hundreds of people write about having met him.

The state of Israel was created BECAUSE of the Bible, not as a proof.

As for my grammar perhaps it needs work, but it is certainly better than most on these boards

Try harder.

As for Josephus, yes,he reports A Jesus but not the killing of all children under 2 a much larger thing, and the "Give us Barabus" thing never occurred in Roman record.

Jesus was a common name in that time as were Mary and Joseph

I am not saying that Jesus was not a prophet and that his teachings were not good, I am just wondering why you continue to use a 2000 year old instruction manual and won't look beyond it.

Why are you killing people in the name of the "Prince of Peace"

OK folks, all I am getting is a lot of babble.

Al I asked is for someone to prove one thing in the Bible by another source.

This is a serious question, I am a seeker and wish to see the proofs of your faith and the tolerance of it's followers.

So far you are batting about zero

BTW- I have NEVER said that God does not exist, I am merely asking for historical proof of occurances in the Bible.

NO!!!! real school teaches the Bible as history.

There are plenty of historical accounts in there confirmed and overlapped by other sources. I think you should be more specific, if you are referrring to just the more religious-oriented items.

Throughout history, most people assumed that the world always was. After Darwin, the whole idea of a beginning seemed unnecessary. Now we know, as the bible stated, the universe did not always exist, it had a beginning. This is a big issue, to say something that sounds completely absurd, that the universe just came into being. Yet, that is exactly what science is struggling with.

Second, we are created beings. Right now, if scince could prove that natural creation was possible where genetic code could somehow come into being with substantially new genetic information, they would do so. It would be evaluated, reported, and natural creation would be believed, just like so many other new hypotheses gained acceptance, because they were demonstrateable.

So it you want to believe you are random quirk of nature, that is your right. If you want to belive life is meaningless, that is your right.

My favorite description of creation comes from proverbs, not genesis. It is pretty scientific to be written about 4,000 years ago.

“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was even an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world.

When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when he assigned the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a Master Craftsman.” -- Proverbs 8:22-30

Last point, I believe in a creator, and I believe in the mesage of the bible after years of personal study. However, Christianity is a religion, and all religions are faith based. They can not be proven.

We the surfers of cyber world meet with so many people every day. Surfing the net is the best pastime one can ever develop, as internet has the most knowledge, a surfer will never have to wait for a answer. The vast knowledge of cyber world is nothing as compared to the cyber society that it gives. Internet is a community but so vast that we need a place to make conversation easy. What more can be better than a chat room for this purpose, well a chat room and a message board along with a forum is the best combination really. I was actually looking for a place where we can find all these things with a profile and photo brouse option. Finally I got this site, this place is a very nice community where we can share every thing online. And also about the leader board, I must tell it is great. The thought of the leader board is unique, as not to many people has thought about this thing. And the method of getting the leader is very different and one must check out this site once. The cyber culture is growing, and it is about time that we find our club and that to a very different club, which is not a part of any big website house like the yahoo and google. This site am talking about has every thing that a cyber surfer ever wants. This is the website address, http://www.friendscyberclub.com/ Features of this site is: 1) chatting 2) view profiles and photos 3) upload your photos and make a cool profile. 4) your message board 5) forum 6) See your name on the leader board. There are also many more features available in the site, free to join.

There is a lot more to the Bible than stories. When the Bible touches on scientific matters, what it says is completely accurate. For example, consider what the Bible says about the earth. In the book of Job, we read: “[God] is stretching out the north over the empty place, hanging the earth upon nothing.” (Job 26:7) Compare this with Isaiah’s statement, when he says: “There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth.” (Isaiah 40:22) When we view pictures of the earth from space, aren't those two statements true? The Bible even talks about the water cycle. These all were written way before humans even realized these facts existed.

Sorry, I know you said not to use the Bible to prove anything, but I had to quote these few scriptures, because I didn't know if you had a Bible. I am just trying to show you that the Bible is accurate w/ a lot of things.

Another example:Astronomer Robert Jastrow, an agnostic in religious matters, wrote: “The details differ, but the essential elements in the astronomical and biblical accounts of Genesis are the same: the chain of events leading to man commenced suddenly and sharply at a definite moment in time, in a flash of light and energy.”

True, many scientists, while believing that the universe had a beginning, do not accept the statement that “God created.” Nevertheless, some now admit that it is difficult to ignore the evidence of some kind of intelligence behind everything. Physics professor Freeman Dyson comments: “The more I examine the universe and study the details of its architecture, the more evidence I find that the universe in some sense must have known that we were coming.”

Dyson goes on to admit: “Being a scientist, trained in the habits of thought and language of the twentieth century rather than the eighteenth, I do not claim that the architecture of the universe proves the existence of God. I claim only that the architecture of the universe is consistent with the hypothesis that mind plays an essential role in its functioning.” His comment certainly betrays the skeptical attitude of our time. But putting that skepticism aside, one notes there is a remarkable harmony between modern science and the Bible’s statement that “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Then there is the Bible’s high standard of hygiene. If an Israelite had a skin blemish suspected of being leprosy, he was put in isolation. In those days, this was an effective way of preventing the spread of the infection.

Another important law had to do with the disposal of human excrement, which had to be buried outside the camp. (Deuteronomy 23:12, 13) This law saved Israel from many sicknesses. Even today, severe health problems are caused in some lands by the improper disposal of human wastes. If people in those lands would only follow the law written down thousands of years ago in the Bible, they would be much healthier.

If God, our Creator, wasn't behind the writing of the Bible, then how did the humans of that time know all of these things? Especially since their contemporaries where completely clueless about many of these subjects.

Just one more example:
During the last century medical personnel would go directly from handling the dead in the dissecting room to conducting examinations in the maternity ward, and they would not even wash their hands. Infection was thus transferred from the dead, and many others died. Even when the value of hand washing was demonstrated, many in the medical community resisted such hygienic measures. Doubtless unknown to them, they were rejecting the wisdom in the Bible, since God’s law to the Israelites decreed that anyone touching a dead person became unclean and must wash himself and his garments.—Numbers 19:11-22.

I hope I have been able to show you that the Bible is more than just a bunch of stories. It is full of useful information for us. We can benefit from it if we set pride aside and look into it w/ a humble attitude.

To be honest, I believe the Bible was not meant to be taken literally, but to be a collection of stories that teach Judeo-Christian morals. Even in Genesis, with the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, one can see the principle message is the importance of not undermining the Patriarchy. This story, it seems, was meant to create stability in a very unstable environment for the early Jewish Tribes. In addition, many human beings have dedicated their entire lives to the scriptures since its first incarnation appeared. To this day people spend their entire existence attempting to understand the Bible. The result of such dedication is countless numbers of Christian denominations. The reason for this, I believe, is that each person, complete with their own ideas, influential histories and environments, interprets the bible in a manner which makes sense to them. It is a natural human tendency to attempt to make sense of the world. That is why an Eastern Orthodox Christian may interpret the same material in an entirely different manner from a Southern Baptist or Mormon, etc. Much in the same way two students might differ when interpreting the meaning of Othello in a High school English class.

Proof of an account was ... I was a ganster addict in and out of prison, when I had a tuberal pregnancy and was told after they removed my tube I would not be able to have children, as I had to much scar tissue in my other tube which was not possable for me to concieve.... I gave up hope and after a break down and the will to live, I concieved a child! and when I brought her home from the hospital for the first time I was compelled to get down on my knees in the middle of a street and give thanks to God, and 8 doves flew over my head , as I counted them.. these words came into my heart and mind which said " The doves signifies the spirit of the living God, 8 signifies that your destiny with this child was planded before time, and this is a sign to show that God has seen your pain and is with you" I was not a Christian, and this child was a miracle... I still was not certain nor was i going to church... At two years old, and I still in my addiction, my daughter said to me, "mommy God let me pick you because He knew you neede me.!" That was the second time God revealed Himself to me.... At 5 this little girl would tell me stories and say to me, "remember when I was the mom and you were the daughter", and she would tell me stories of when I was a child before I was adpoted. That was the third. Then there was a little dog that was lost in which I found and to who I searched and searched for its owner .... this dog was the link that let me to the church which led me to the alter where I was saved!
That is proof with out the Bible that God exsist! and persues us!
You can not prove exsistance of history without proof, but you can prove experiences of the spirit by confirmation

I have to concur with most of the other answers here. That's a pretty silly question. The Bible is written as a historical account of the lives and teachings of ancient prophets. To ask someone to prove the history while at the same time requiring that they ignore the historical record seems...I dunno...asinine.

The Bible and history
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For a historical description of Biblical times see: History of ancient Israel and Judah

The article concerns the historicity of the Bible. In other words, it addresses in what ways the Bible is historically accurate; the extent to which it can it be used as a historic source and what qualifications should be applied. This is intended to represent the academic viewpoint. For descriptions of religious beliefs, please go to the appropriate subject-matter page.

Dear Ed,

most certainly there is strong historical and archeological proof. Historians who did not like Jesus (IE: Josephus) - noted that there was a man named Jesus who came to the temple and his teachings created controversy (much like we see with the account of the Pharisees in the gospels). The Bible has been tested over time and found to be the most historically accurate book (in fact if you look at the # of manuscripts it has) it's odd that people dont' question did Shakespeare right Hamlet, etc., it's off course because of the Bible's content and the implications of it.

Hope that helps,

Nickster

You mean like all the prophecies that have already occured, such as hundreds of years before the Israelites were taken into slavery and their temple destoyed, that Isaiah foretold it? Like the fact that he also foretold that Israel would again become a nation, after all the tribes had been dispersed all over the world? Is that what you're getting at?

The atoms that make up our bodies and, if fact, everything in our would are the same as those that make up the stars and the rest of the known universe.

That's right - we're made out of "star" stuff.

Only God could have used basic building materials to create life and all of the universe.
