Yes I have volunteered. I started in Primary school and continued in High School. After school I had a break and then joined a Lions Club.

Doing that time I did much work for the local community and for other charity groups. One particular experience I enjoyed was helping keep the local Cystic Fibrosis house running and clean.

Because of the BS that was going down in the club though I decided to leave. For most people in the club it was about prominence - I was in it to help people.

I now volunteer for the GLBT community.

I volunteer at an animal shelter, I do beach clean ups and litter pick ups. I volunteered for the STAR program for a few months: Students Talk About Race. I worked with elementary students through reading books, writing, drawing and performing skits all with emphasis on racial tolerance. I wouldn't do the STAR program again though. The animals at the shelter are much better behaved. I mean a kid tried to bite me!

Also volunteered at a Women's Centre for women who were abused or who were new to the country and needed help, and I also volunteered for my favourite political party at election time. As long as I have free time, I volunteer. It is an ongoing activity.

I was in my local Kiwanis club for over ten years, and served as its president twice. I was on the local Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and served as its president three years in a row. I also have volunteered to teach Junior Achievement (JA) classes to elementary school students for the past fifteen years - perhaps one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my life. -RKO-
