okay i have two birds one is green and yellow the other one is complpetely white... they are both parakeets and my white bird (her name is lisa) doesn't sing as often like it used, i've done everything to figuire it out.... although the colrful bird(his name is sam) does sing anymore and it always beaten by lisa why does he sing and not her... i also have put a nest for them to build which they did build and sleep in it every night why doesn't she sing and i take great care of them... and she is also sleepy most of the day, while sam is wide awake and cheerful why is this happening? and she is not very old so i don't think she's dying.

It is not true that only male parakeets talk/sing. That is true of canaries but not of parakeets. If your bird used to sing and is no longer doing it and is sleeping for most of the day there is a good chance the bird is sick. These are the first signs of a bird being sick. If your bird begins to sit mainly on the bottom of the cage or perches only on two legs never tucking one up then the bird is very sick. Keep an eye on them. Male and female parakeets should be talkative and active.

she may be ill. If you have given them a nest box, she could be egg bound call a vet. Egg binding is when the egg does not form properly or gets stuck and cannot be passed. It is a lot like having a baby...it is very stressful to the mother.
Another thing is, she may be just really content. Sometimes when they are really happy and comfortable they don't feel the need to show off as much.
Females do sing, though usually not as much, but I would take her to the vet and rule that out first. If you were to lose her, poor Sam would really be heartbroken they do mate for life, good luck.

i had a parakeet and the person i got it from said that most girl birds don't sing or talk but most of the boy birds do. so that might be why!!!
