We have no idea which fruit it was except that it was a fruit of a tree, for all we know the fruit probably doesn't exist anymore, it is a common children's book misconception to think it had to be an apple and nothing else. Renember when god created the universe he said that all was good, the reason things turned bad is because of sin, and sin came into the world because of free choice, I'm not saying free choice is bad, but apples don't have free choice so therefore they haven't sinned, which makes them a pure and good fruit. No it is not a sin to eat apples.

Apples were probably not the "forbidden fruit" that Adam and Eve ate, despite all the European art you've probably seen. Apples are strictly European. The early Jewish tribes, and first Christians probably never heard of apples. it's more likely that the forbidden fruit was a pomegranate or something of that nature. Maybe it was just a metaphor. Anyway go ahead and eat your apple, I promise you wont go to hell.

Nowhere in the Bible does it state that Adam and Eve ate an apple, in Genesis chapters two and three it only refers to it as "fruit".

it was only sinful because God told them to not eat fruit from a particular tree, i'm not sure if it was an apple tree, but maybe, and Eve disobeyed and lead Adam to do it too after the devil mislead them. so the act of eating the apple wasn't the sin, it was the fact that they could eat any other fruit from any other tree and yet they chose to give in to their curiousity and to disobey God. as kaitielou_91 said it was a test of obedience .

No, the problem there was that Eve started using her head. The apple was just an apple.

it wasn't because it was an apple. in fact, it had nothing to do with the fact that it was an apple. God commanded them not to eat it. it was a test of obiendence, it doesn't mean apples are bad.
