Yes, if heaven existed, actions, not beliefs, would be the way to get in.

Hey jcrewcatt,
i think your question is wonderful in that it shows your heart to be nice. The hard part is off course- is who determines what is nice and not nice. God has set the standard, and the Bible teaches that at some point all of us have fallen short of God's standards of morality.
This is why being nice, doing good, while they are great things that reflect the character of God, are not good enough to "earn" or merit our way to heaven. Ephesians tells us that we're saved by grace, (God's free gift of His Son). Jesus was the only one who was "good enough" to meet all of God's standards and so he payed the price for sin- so that you and i by believing in Him would have the chance to have a relationship with God.
Heaven is where God dwells- and so why would people want to go there if they don't want to know God. So being nice won't help you know God- although it has merit in itself. Only trusting in Jesus.
Hope that helps. Feel free to email with any more questions: nicksterlee@yahoo.com

No. John 3:3 Jesus told Nicodemus" ...Except a man (woman) be born again he(she) cannot see the kingdom of God"...
You see it is not about how nice you are, but it is about accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made back on Calvary.
Read Romans 10:9

It will if people get to vote on it. :o)
Being nice to people always makes me feel better as well. It makes me think that others are doing the same. We have created a big circle of good deeds.
To me, all religions that promote treating others like you would like to be treated are great, as long as they require that you treat EVERYONE well - don't exclude women, LGBT people, particular races, divorced people, etc. So if your beliefs make you treat others well, you're all right by me, no matter what you call what you believe!

Being nice to people is the foundation of Christian teaching. However, Jesus clearly states that going to heaven is up to God. So what can we do...just love one another and let god handle the rest.

Just being nice isn't enough to remove our sins.
Cornelius was a good man, according to the Romans and the Jews, but he still needed to call for Peter to tell him "words by which he could be saved" (Acts 11:14).

NO..You cannot go to to heaven on good works alone. you have to believe that Jesus is the son of God and he died to wash away our sins and that he arose 3 days later. That is how you will go to heaven. just being a good person will not get you there.

Compaired to who? Who is really nice? Besides God himself says there is no one nice no not one. (See Romans 3:10) Everyone has selfish motives for doing something everyone only thinks of what they have to gain. There are no such thing as nice people in God's eyes. (see Romans 3:10-22) Paul finishes up the by making the most serious of accusations against man kind "All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God." Romans 3:23. He continues on to state that we have a need for someone to save us. Because compaired to God we are nothing. He continues on in Romans 3: 24 by saying that because of Jesus Christ (God's perfect offering) we have peace and redemption. God sent His son (see vs. 25) to be the payment for our sins. And through faith in Christ alone you are declared in a right relationship with Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit. The only way people (LOL) who think they are nice get to heaven it by believing and putting their faith and trust in to Jesus Christ. He has paid the ulitmate price for you and I. Without your asking Him. He did it because He loved mankind and didn't want them to be eternally separated by their own foolish choice. But if you choose not to accept God's free gift of salvation then that is on you. Don't blame God for His rules to get into His party.

Nope, some people are nice for the wrong reasons. Can't win brownie points with God. He looks at the intent of your actions, not what you do but the reason behind what you do.

No. Being nice has nothing to do with salvation. Salvation is by faith in eh completed work of Jesus Christ at the cross. Jesus said: I am the way, the truth and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me."
