Jello is the brand name of a group of fruit and gelatin desert products. It's jelling agent is an animal protein derived from bone and other animal parts. Because of its origin, it would not be kosher nor would it be consumed by a vegetarian knowingly. Other ingredients with jelling properties are readily available including some ancient Asian root products (konnyaku), a sea weed derived product (agar agar) and several others.

Its gelatin, which is made from fat. Have you ever seen that jelly looking stuff that is on a roast when it cools in the fridge? That is what jello is made from. Most specifically it is made from pig fat.
