Since when do we need a book on common sense and decency.
People are so into themselves lately that they have no care, concern or respect for others. Nobody else wants to hear your cell phone conversation people - keep it down !!!!
I would like to fire the next employee who comes to a meeting and doesn't turn his/her phone off !!

Definitely. The cell phone rudeness phenomenon has gotten way, WAY out of control. People walk and drive around with phones either held to the ear, or worse. clipped on via Bluetooth, etc and they do not pay attention to what they're doing. It's ridiculous when you see someone in front of you driving 40 mph and you realize they're on the phone, or when they're sitting in a restaurant eating and yakking on the phone. And what exactly is the purpose of the clip-on? "I am way too lazy to hold a phone to my ear"? Or "I am so important and so busy that I need both hands to multi-task while I talk on the phone" ?

And I totally agree with bluffmike.

This rant is now over. We now return you to a commercial for Verizon Wireless.

I detest cell phones. As a librarian in a public library, I spend part of my day telling people to please turn off their phones or take their calls to the library's lobby.

Most people comply politely. Yesterday, a young woman was very irritated with me because I interrupted her rather loud phone call to her boyfriend. I told her she was being rude for talking loudly and not leaving to take her call to the lobby. She friends were with - also loud.

It is just so irritating! Why do people think they can talk anywhere any time and at any level (noise) because they have a cell phones? AND- IN A PUBLIC LIBRARY!!!!!

I'm with you. How a about some manners, please?

Yes. I'm afraid writing it would be an exercise in futility, though. Cell phoners are too disconnected from the real world to read and use a book.

That sounds like a good idea. Sadly, the people who are rude with their cellphones either don't know or don't care that they are rude, so they would never even think to pick up that book.

I think it should be given to you each time you buy a cellphone. Better yet, you should take a test to see if you are ready for a cellphone. If you fail, you can't get one until you pass it again. Like driving a car.

Actually, no, I don't agree. The rules for etiquette should be sufficient. The problem is the general lack of consideration that many people seem to have for those around them.

if i was a publisher, i would publish it! i'm guilty for using the cell phone when i shouldn't. but one thing that is really rude... are students answering their phones while in class and the instructor is lecturing (right in front of him/her). it's very rude! i know we carry cell phones for communication (and for emergencies, if they arise), but sometimes people just don't think. their manners are out the door!!!

We either need cell phone etiquette guidelines or ban cell phones altogether. I'm all for the ban.

I'd love to publish it, if I thought people would read it. People dont even read the sign that says closed for lunch, so I doubt they would read a book that is sadly needed.
