I don't see a problem with it. He isn't benefiting any more than any one else there.

As long as they don't promote political issues. Then I have a problem, and so does the IRS as they are going after them.

I don't know if it's documented in the Federal regulations, however i believe if the congregation choose to honor their pastor is perfectly fine. Pastors get a bad rap a lot of times because of shady ministers. I believe in supporting true men of God who take their positions seriously. They deserve it because they are an important part of our lives. God call them to teach and lead us in the right path and to grow up spiritually to be better Christians. It's not a easy job to have so many lives depending on your guidance. I'm in 100% agreement to use some of the money to show our appreciation for the person must important in our lives besides God. If he is a man after God's on heart! Why not?!!

The Church as a group does not. The individuals that make up the Church are free to spend their money however they wish.

Why would a birthday party for the pastor be the business of the fed?

If the church collected the money for the specific goal of having a party they are breaking no laws.
Why are you so concerned?

It is a legitimate expense, just as spending money on the birthday party for a corporate executive is a legitimate deduction.
