Mom died but 2 days before she did Millie the bird mentioned a name of a person several times who would be at the funeral that I've not seen in years .. Millie does not even know them either! When I came home she stuck her head real close out of cage and looked at me in sympathy and moaned like weeping because I was so hurt with mom gone.

Birds especially Greys are very intelligent and intuitive. They do know. My mother's dog was really close to dying but hung on until after she recovered from surgery, it was his was of taking care of her. My cockatiel I have had for 22 years knew when I was pregnant, she knew exactly what was going on and when I brought my son home she was one of the first I let see him. Birds know.
Your bird is trying to tell you it understands. It is trying to show you compassion and comfort...take it... you need it right now.
Sorry for your loss.

My Yellow nape is the funniest bird.. part of what makes her "funny" is that she seems to try to cheer people up. While I was on vacation and a friend was telling us about her story leading to her quad heart operation. My bird was laughing softly and the most APPROPRIATE times. The woman was fine, but looking back, I'd say it was in sympathy to cheer her up to such a scary story to break the thick feeling in the room. I don't doubt your story. condolences.

African greys do form a bond with their owners and maybe this is what has happened. They are one of the most intelligent of all birds and I do miss mine who was stolen recently.my web site might help www.artsaquaticsandanimals.com

It doesnt surprise me at all. Birds have long been thought of as spiritual animals.
My grey hasn't done anything like that but...they are very smart and very intuitive.
Sorry about your mother.
