Anyone else have this problem?

I have got quite a long way into Half Life 2 on Xbox but right at the end of one of the levels after a few seconds it just locks up.
I don`t think you can alter or upgrade an Xbox so why does it do this?

It could be two things

1) Damaged disk.
Check for smudges, smears, scratches, scrapes (and anything else that starts with an 's'). A quick remedy would be to take a toothbrush and brush over the back of the CD with colgate WHITE toothpaste. Then with a damp cloth, wipe it off. Yes, this does fix minor scratches and no, this doesn't harm the CD-R drive in the Xbox.

2) Problems with the CD-R in the Xbox. Purchase a cleaning kit and run it in your Xbox to try and clean the laser end.
