International meetings: What are the real results?

Including: NAFTA, Mercosur, European Union, APEC, OCDE, Commonwealth, ALADI....
More than a solemn reunion and wonderful parties.
Where and which are the real results for the population in the different areas discussed.

I guess that these meetings reinforce the communication between the countries, but what else?
