This word puzzles me mightily. I have asked people who use it what it means, and they say many things that make me go "yeah", but then they start saying things that make me go "no" -- so, what do y'all think?

And I complain about others' lack of specificity. I intended to ask this question of those who use the word, not those who reject it.

My bad.

Contrary to what many people would have you believe, being spritual has nothing to do with religion. I've sat at the peak of a mountain overlooking a misty valley and have felt very spiritual. That is, I felt connected to mother earth and its beauty, and I also felt humbled by it. Spirituality has to do with the non-material things, so in that sense Athiests could have the same sense of spirituality too. Just because you reject the existence of a God or Gods, doesn't mean you don't believe in souls.

The word spiritual has become a common phrase which can mean anything depending on the person using it. I would like to expand a little on the various kinds of knowledge that are available in this world -
Worldly knowledge taught in colleges and universities.
Religious knowledge teaching scriptures then Spiritual Knowledge which is knowledge taught only by The Spirit to spirits. Each body has a soul sitting in the forehead area of the body and it is the soul that learns and experiences life ... when its part is done, it leaves its body and according to its karmic accounts, goes and enters another body to play another part. The soul is a spark of light that cannot be seen with these eyes - The Spirit is also a tiny spark of light and is ever spiritual, eternally … which mean Spirit never loses any of its virtues because Spirit never enters the cycle of birth and death. The Spirit is the only one who can teach spiritual matters to its children in the form of souls. All other studies are taught by human beings to human beings. To become spiritual would mean to follow what God is teaching us to do which is to give up the vices. So a spiritual person would be one who is in the process of mastering their body and mind and are causing no more sorrow to themselves or others. Everyone is a spiritual being because we are all children of The Spirit but we are not all necessarily being spiritual in our actions.

Spiritual is a very vague word which people use to imply a sense of righteousness, without admitting to being religiously influenced.

We all have spirits. These bodies are temples to house our spirits. Those who choose to humble themselves before the Lord and strive to do His will, are able to communicate or be taught and gain wisdom, knowledge and understanding through the spirit by the Holy Spirit. These things are spiritual. Also things learned of, from someone else who received knowledge and understand by the Spirit, is to learn of spiritual things. This is the case with scriptures.

Believe it or not, spiritual typically means money. Hovever, spiritual is just an imaginary fantasy status of the mind. It is a popular escape from reality, but it affects millions of people, and could also be classified as a mental illness. Personally I think it is a mental illness.

Why does spiritual mean money in today's world?

Consider this, Sam has a lunatic in his head, but God tries to cure him with another religious Bible con-trick.

For far too long we have been inundated with religious preachers knocking on doors, screaming on street corners, babbling in church, and worst of all, using TV to ram their beliefs down our throats and those of our children. Prophets or profits? I think the answer is obvious. Hands raised upwards, then into the pockets, let’s give money money money.

A little old lady comes on stage, push her forehead, she falls over and low and behold, she’s cured of her mental and physical woes. Hands raised again, yep you’re on to it, let’s give more money money money. Check out the preachers shiny white teeth as they count their gold.

Here’s the truth. Sam has a lunatic in his head, crippled legs, done his bit for the country, but Sam manages to come on stage smiling, gets pushed over, falls flat on his rear end and he’s still got a lunatic in his head, and he’s still a cripple. Guess what, no money money money. That’s the real truth. All of the magic cures are just fake stage plays, and they do it for money, money, money.

Spiritual means of the spirit or non material. The word spiritual refers to non-material things, including a spiritual body and spiritual things as distinct from earthly goods. But most importantly use of the word is in reference to the Holy spirit.
