I'm surprised how many people on here don't even research the food they feed their cat.
Never feed your cat supermarket-bought food such as Iams, Meow Mix, Purina, etc. Those brands are AWFUL. Even Science Diet is really not that great at all. They use by-products (feet, beaks, meat from sick or diseased animals, claws, basically anything left over that isn't legal to sell to humans for our consumption) as one of the first ingredients in their food, and there are so many fillers that it is disgusting. The corn meal fillers in their foods are completely unhealthy for cats and have been proven to show long-term health damage by the latter parts of their lives. IN ADDITION to all that, MANY of those brands (www.iamscruelty.org) do animal testing and have a history of animal abuse.
I am currenly feeding my cat Natural Balance, which can be bought at pet supply stores and is only a few dollars more than the rediculous store bought food that apparently everyone here feeds their cats. There IS a difference-- a huge difference. Natural Balance contains much better protein sources and also does not use animal by-products. It also uses brown rice fillers instead of corn meal.
To everyone who sees this, please look into what you are feeding your cat! It does make a world of difference.

I used to feed my cats 9 lives or regular store bought cat food, my one cat puked a lot and my other cat kept getting bladderstones, and it was all because of the cheap canned food, and hard food. The can food like 9 lives is only 27 percent water, and thats bad. I now only give them science diet thats 97% water. Its not cheap but its not bad I buy a huge bag of hard food for 30 dollars and so far its lasted me 2months, and the can food is about 20 a month which isn't bad and its totatlly worth it. My one cat doesn't puke hardly at all, and my other cat doesn't get bladderstones. Its so much healther and I can see the difference.

Please Tammy O -- you must NOT feed your cat(s) dog food. It has no taurine in it. This is essential for cats -- lack of it can lead to heart trouble and/or blindness. Please check with your vet on this.

Like Marianne I feed my cats premium cat food. Funny, I fed my cats Life's Abundance for many years (along with other dry foods). As I live in CA the shipping costs were high and I have since found other foods.

I am sorry if responding to other posters is not considered good manners.

What do my cats eat? They have a raw meat diet (combined with a supplement powder. That's for dinner. Two cats eat that for breakfast and dinner.

For breakfast: I use Natural Balance (venison and pea), another NB dry that is chicken based, Prairie. I keep looking around at other dry foods as I go to the stores where the premium foods are sold. I used to use Wellness and they have changed their manufacturing process and my cats don't like it as well now.

I use the Natural Balance canned foods too. They have great "flavors" and have been a hit with my cats.

I have a cat recently diagnosed with bladder cancer. He had been a long-term holdout with the raw meat and a total kibble addict. In the last three months he had been converted to the raw and the NB canned.
Another of my cats is on the thin side (11 lbs for a 14 yr old male orange tabby) He eats the dry food and really loves the canned so I have given him more of that for the last month. His kidney values have risen slightly and I can add a teaspoon of filtered water to the meat servings. That will help his kidneys function better. He eats the raw meat too.

I feed my 3 Maine Coon cats Chicken Soup for a Cat Lovers Soul. Other excellent brands are Wellness, Felidae and Lifes Abundance but these are more costly. The thing to remember is not so much the brand of food but the ingredients. Never chose a food that has "corn" listed as one of the ingredients. Corn is non nutritional and is a cheap way for pet food manufacturers to "fill" the food. A form of protein should be one of the first ingredients listed. Cats also need "taurine" so make sure that is included.

Cats are really, really fussy.
Everyone knows that.

They will only eat certain types of food - they would rather die than eat a cheaper brand.

Some turn their noses up at best quality steak, others turn their whiskers up at roast chicken.

BUT

Let your pussycat out in the garden, it will find a stale piece of bread that a passing seagull has dropped and it will eat every last little piece of it and then search for more.

Do you ever get the feeling these pussycats are taking the Mickey out of us?

PS My cat is 11 - extremely fit and energetic and has only ever eaten Nutro (dried biscuits from certain pet shops) throughout his whole life (besides bits of bread and the occasional worm no doubt)

I know this sounds terrible, but I feed my cat Pedigree dog food. I've tried lots of different cat foods, and she was always stealing the dog's food! So I gave up and now I only have to buy one kind of food! LOL

If your cat is content on eating the dry food, just continue with that. No need to bother yourself with expensive cans. Besides wet food is more fattening and not as beneficial as dry food. Just make sure you keep him or her on kitty food until they are a year old, then switch to adult brand, like Science Diet adult maintenance.

My kitties were brought up on science diet dry. They are now 6 1/2 yrs old nd they are addicted to Whiska's (ground only) and Whiska's dry with the Carnation milk balls. They don't like anything else. They are also addicted to what I call "cat crack". They are crab flavored cat treats. They will only also drink cat milk, not cat sip. Fussy!! Good luck
