Jehovah's Witnesses practice strict political and nationalistic neutrality, so they do not celebrate nationalistic holidays such as Independence Day and Memorial Day.

Other holidays derive from false religion, and so are incompatible with pure worship as adulterating interfaith. For example, Easter derives from the pagan god Oestre and celebrates "rebirth" and "fertility" instead of commemorating Christ's Last Supper and death as Jesus commanded:
(Luke 22:1-22) [Jesus] dispatched Peter and John, saying: “Go and get the passover ready for us to eat.” ...14 At length when the hour came, he reclined at the table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them: “I have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I tell you, I will not eat it again until it becomes fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” ... Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”

Seemingly innocuous holidays may have only a tangential connection with false worship, such as Mother's Day and Father's Day (although arguably derived from ancestor worship). Understated observance of these is not generally considered interfaith by Jehovah's Witnesses, but it is too easily misunderstood in some cultures.

Since such celebrations are not required in true worship, and can easily become a distraction, so Jehovah's Witnesses focus their attention elsewhere. In particular, they are focussed on the preaching work which *IS* a requirement for Christians:

(Luke 10:1-17) [Jesus] the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

The believe Gods right name is Jehovah... this is kinda sad because there is no such word ... the consonants of YHWH for yawheh had the vowels of adononai yielding YaHoWah and in germanic would look like JahoVah and the vast majority Bible schoars know this very well but YWs have an emotional prior commitment to a name that is essentially a anglicized gernamisized mix of two hebre words and no original word at all and assert it is the only and right name of God... a sincere mistake but a mistake

truthdfully, few JW know it but they are a offshoot of a offshoot of the 7th day adventists so alot of their beliefs are similar to 7th day adventists with some new ones as Russel the founder started teaching a 7th day adventist breakoff of a beakoff bible study

beliefs shared with 7th day adventists would be like 1) Jesus being Michael the archangel... I think this is a mistake and explain why below 2) conditionalism a soul is only etternal on the condition it is saved also I think a mistake

then they differ from 7th day adventists in that they 1) meet on Sunday ... not a bad idea and 2) deny that Jesus is fully God and fully man... big mistake

They have some serious problems with historical honesty.
They falsely predicted the world would end roughly once every 20 years since they started and this is documents in The Watchtower Files and then act like it never happened... over and over and over...

They have an anonymously translated bible which they assert to be the best transalation in history... and one should have a healthy skeptism about such an anynomous work. I think this is playing fast and loose with the Bible and it basically puts down good translations where the qualifications of the transaltors are listed and puts in its place anaonymity because its easier ot claim one has the best translation if its a mere assertion required by mmbers to believe no matter how unqualified the real translators were

One belief...as an example..Jesus and Michael are mentioned next to eachother in the two places they are mentioned in the New Testament and no connection made... so I have to reject this idea

Another example.. Jesus in the Bible is fully man and fully God. Jesus said tead down this temple and in three days I will raise it again in John 2 making Jesus human enough to die and divine ehough to raise HIMESELF from the dead

First off, only HATERS call them a cult, they are not. They do not fit the "criteria" of a cult. Look it up.

#1. They believe Jesus the Christ is the Son of God and they ONLY WAY to reach God in Prayer.

#2. They believe that Jesus the Christ is God's ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, meaning that he is the ONLY THING GOD EVER CREATED and that as God's "Master Architect" he created Heaven, the Universe, the Angels, and everything else. So, when the Bible says "God's ONLY BEGOTTEN SON died for you," it literally MEANS, "the only thing in the history of CREATION God MADE was sacrificed for our sorry rears.

Wow, if I were God, I'm not sure I would consider us worthy of that.

#3. They believe that the Earth will NOT be destroyed but will remain forever as a Paradise as Christ promised the thief on the Cross, when he said, "today, I tell you, you will be with me in Paradise." Notice, not heaven, but Paradise. This is also backed up many, many times in the Bible.

#4. They believe that there are different types of hell, and if you would read the Bible in its "original" languages YOU'D KNOW THIS:
a. Gehenna
b. Hades
c. Sheol
d. The Lake of Fire (meaning the 2nd death, the lake of fire) see The Book of Revelation Chapter 20:14 - Where it says, "Death and Hades where THROWN into the Lake of Fire, the second death, the Lake of Fire. (eternal destruction, much like before you were born, after you die in the 2nd death, you won't be aware either. God considers this punishment enough, he would never punish someone with eternal fire, that HELLFIRE was of Pagan origin) and also Acts Chapter 5 - the story of Ananais & Sapphira (sinning against the Holy Spirit and dying the 2nd death).

None of these - NONE of these are a burning forever hellfire. NONE. And they are all the hells there are in the Bible EXCEPT the one in the Parable of the "rich man and lazarus" which was "just a parable."

5. They believe that God's name is Jehovah or Yahweh, however it has been shown that Jehovah is the Anglicized version and thus "more correct" for english speaking peoples.

shall we commence, with the help of defining a cult. A cult is a religious practice that has a human chief, who brainwashes human beings into wondering that they're a divinity. And cults dont unavoidably function for moral purposes, many times merely to fill some want without moral historic past. and they have regulations pointing out you're able to do stuff that has no longer something to do with righteousness. So are Witnesses really a cult? Charles Taze Russell under no circumstances actuall spoke of himself as a God, nor do the Witnesses. And witness believe that the bible is the in straightforward words source, and agianst classic teachings. yet they do have many regulations compared to maximum religions. yet maximum of their teachings come immediately from the bible. So technically, they don't look a cult. yet like various denominations, there are cults that exist contained in the religion. The Witnesses are literally not meant to modify doctrine, and is going with the help of each source the bible says. yet there have been situations of evil acts, alongside with shunning human beings out, and treating them like outcasts. yet their beliefs variety from maximum Christians.

You ask a ??? pertaining to Jehovah's Witnesses, unless a Witness answers your ???, all you receive is a bunch of utter nonsense, lies, they know very little about JW's, they just like to toot their horn.

Who are most of these people? Some just hate the teaching of JW's, but many are disfellowshipped, apostates, a disloyal person who betrays or deserts his cause or religion. Why did they leave or were disfellowshipped, here are some reasons:

Some of the offenses that could merit disfellowshipping from the Christian congregation are fornication, adultery, homosexuality, greed, extortion, thievery, lying, drunkenness, reviling, spiritism, murder, idolatry, apostasy, and the causing of divisions in the congregation.

Why don't you people wise up and start acting like a
Christian, isn't that what most of you claim to be?

You might be able to deceive fellow humans, but you cannot fool Jehovah. (Heb. 4:13) Time and again the Scriptures exhort us to be honest with one another, for liars will have no place in an earth swept clean of unrighteousness. (Prov. 14:2; Rev. 21:8; 22:15) The reason for that should be clear. The promoter of all untruth is none other than Satan the Devil. John 8:44.

Making honesty our way of life brings numerous benefits. Among them are a clean conscience and the satisfaction of being trusted by others. But, the most important benefit, is that honesty wins us the friendship of Almighty God. Psalm 15:1,2.

No more for the desires of men, but for God’s will. For the time that has passed by is sufficient for US to have worked out the will of the nations when WE proceeded in deeds of loose conduct, lusts, excesses with wine, revelries, drinking matches, and illegal idolatries. Because WE do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of US. But these people will render an account to the one ready to judge those living and those dead

A Jehovah Witness believes that those who will make it to heaven have already been chosen, and that list does not include any of us. Those who live right by Jehovah, (staying away from pre-marital sex, going to meetings, which means church, refraining from abusing alchohol or drugs, and spreading Jehova's word to the people) will remain on Earth after Armageddon and Earth becomes a paradise. Those who do not follow Jehovah will die...as in cease to exist and not live in heaven at all.

Jehovah witnesses are Christians as well they believe in god and Christ they call him god and Jehovah just don't believe in holidays, like Christmas because Christ wasn't really born on that day, at least that's what i was told;and the other holidays well they basically saying like Easter, the Easter bunny isn't real so whats the point of celebrating. As for the patriotic holidays they don't believe in those because its like putting the flag and government before god..they aren't bad people ..so leave them alone

Jehovah (God/Almighty god). Just to let you know, Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult. People have a misunderstanding about our religion. But I'm glad you asked. We do have our own holiday which is called the Lord's evening meal or people know it as being like passover.

It's not a religion, it's a cult. You can't just "join" you have to do all these things to get in. Once you're in you can't celebrate birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc. You also can't vote or have ANYTHING patriotic. You have to have a 4 door car as well. They have no windows in their buildings and they all think the world is out to get them. Trust me, my neighbor is one and she told me all about it. She trusts nothing and her home is always locked up and she hardly ever comes out except to go to her watchtower meetings.

ignore the insultive trashing responses your about to get, from people who are so insecure they have to condem a relegion with names like 'cult' and 'lies'.

however, as a Jehovah's wittness i can awnser that for you,
we beleive that the bible is the awnser to everything, we use any form of the bible, not just the new world trranslation, like many slanderers say. we research the bible, and beleive in jesus and god. We don't leave out anything, or add anything. 'all scripture is inspired by god and benificial for teaching'
We put god's will before our own pleasures and needs, and put him first in everyhting we do. we are the ony ones that actively do jesus's command for his followers, that is

'go out a preach to all the nations,"
matthew 24:14

we beleive Jesus is god's son, like he mentioned many times. he spoke to his father in heaven alot which he wouldn't have done if he were god himself.

we don't celebrate any hlidays that we question as having a pagan or link to a false god history or cutom. we want to give god exclusive devotion, and so things like easter and christmas (which both have pagan items and pasts) are avoided.

we make sure to keep with god's command to be 'no parto f the world, so we do not vote or partake in any worldy customs, god's kingdom is the only one we're interested in. However, jesus said to give 'ceasers things to ceaser, and god's things to god' so we pay all our taxes and give to the government what the ask without interrferring.

We love all people, and want to help them get a accurate knowledge of god, we love the bible and use it to help people, we don't look down on anyone, even those that persicute and hate us. just like jesus commanded.

thats a few things baout us. if you have any other questions or comments, please, feel free to I.M me, i'll be glad to help you.

f.i.e.r.c.e- where ever you got your information is way off.
of course we have windows. and you dont have to do anything to join. just attend.
and everything we do is based on scripture, and not our own beleifs. that is the only reason why it so differse from your beleifs.

like i forwarned. many of these responses are pure Apostasy and critisim. tehy don't understand it, so they critisize and lie about it. unfortuantly, you can't beleive half the things here on yahoo awnsers, because like fierce plainly displaid, they don't know what they are talking about.
no offense.
