I guess it really depends on what you like to do and what kind of date you would like. I can give you lots of ideas but I am not sure what you are looking for in this answer....
Well a great place to go is MOA especially for first timers to the state. It has many places to shop and great food - try kokomo cafe third floor, also theres a theatre there and there's the park in the middle for some fun. Another place you could go is the JJH house, in downtown st paul. It is a wonderful place to see and it is great to have someone to see it with. There is always your basic restaraunts... like fridays, applebees, chilis, etc. The movies are in almost every suburb if you are looking for your basic date. There is underwater world at moa, it was really fun but it wasn't that long, its a day pass though so you can go many times. The Minnesota zoo, don't bother, not really worth the money, if you really want a zoo, check out the Como zoo in st paul it is free and much more worth your time. Lets see if you are a more learning type then try the science exibit in st paul it has the human body exhibit there til sept. If thats not your thing than you could try the batting cages in st paul or minneapolis want to see a sports game? the metredome it really nice, and so is the Xcel center in st paul. There is the local night clubs if that is your thing, the rodeo for country is in gottage grove and the other ones for more hip hop are located all around the cities, st paul, minneapolis, hugo, maplewood. There is the drive in movies in gottage grove and hastings area, Vally Hi and Cottage View. Those are always lots of fun. Try shooting some pool for a more non origional date, those are every where. Swimming? theres the new indoor water park in bloomington or the outdoor in eagan - called cascade bay. Right now there is the Dakota county fair through Aug 13th I think and thats in farmington, a little drive but well worth it. The state fair is coming up on Snelling Ave in st paul. There is RENT at the ordway in downtown st paul. If you like comedy - even though its a little ways away - larry the cable guy is coming I think in oct? for a show at the xcel I think - not for sure on dates and place but he is coming- other than that off the top of my head thats what I can think of good luck!

Go to the Science museum. Pay attention to what interests him. There are a lot of cool exhibits there, and you could have lunch there, too.go online and check out the nightlife in that area. If things go well at the museum, stop into a few clubs, or have coffee and people watch together.
Have fun!
