The door was open about 8 inchs. It still felt as cool as the refrigerator, and the chicken that was in the middle was 1/2 defrosted and 1/2 icy. The fish was completely defrosted. Do I throw it all out? I'm not sure how fast bacteria grows.

You can put it in the fridge and prepare it soon. No, it can not be refrozen.

Call your insurance company, this might be under your policy.

Think of how you defrost the chicken and fish. Do you normally put it in the fridge or on the counter top?
I would put the chicken in the refrigerator and prepare the next night after fully defrosting.
Prepare the fish tonight.
When in doubt throw out.
This is a good time to defrost your freezer. Get some blue ice and a large ice cooler and put your food in it or use your other freezer. I use a steamer to help melt the ice as well as disinfect. scrub with baking soda and a nylon mesh scrub.

I would cook it asap. It takes almost 12 hours to thaw in the refridgerator, which means, you should be able to cook the fish and eat it. The chicken should also be cooked then frozen again. Be sure to defrost your freezer and clean it real good. That way, you don't lose, and you get rid of any bacteria. Food is expensive and I'd hate to toss it unless its really unavoidable.

I wouldn't refreeze the hog. I'd just toss everything just to be sure. That would SO p**ss me off!!! Since it's cut up... cook some of it, and see if anyone else you know might want some of it. It should be refrigerated and used within the next week at least. Depending on how long ago it fully thawed.

dont take the chance. Toss it all. While the food might be expensive to replace, it's not as much as a couple of days in the hospital recovering from sallmonella.

Besides, might be a good time to defrost the freezer.

Well if it is still icey and mostly still frozen you can refreeze it, if it is unfrozen and cool you can put it in refrig and eat it soon, usually when it thaws out and you refreeze it won't taste right. so if it was still at about 50 degrees which is normal frig temp its ok just dont refreeze, put in the frig and use it in near future
