This is why you need a degree, not an armchair, to do psychiatry.
I come here because I know about religion, especially Christianity, and so I am suited to answering these questions. From what I've noticed, I seem to know a lot more about the religion than most of the Christians here.

People have a right to protect themselves and their children from religion and religious believers.
Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.
The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.
People should consider that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell.

They probably do it for a couple of reasons..
One being that they are bored and have nothing better to do..
The second could be that they want to challenge the beliefs and the Bible. To a scientific person who believes in evolution, etc, the Bible does not make sense.
I am personally not religious but I have strong moral values. I will go out of my way to help others less fortunate. "Some" religious people can be very judgemental. I've seen it first hand. Especially with the homeless.
I know lots of religious people and they are my friends.. But they can be very Intolerant and judgemental. Just the opposite of what the bible teaches..

This is a discussion forum for Religion and Spirituality. Just like part of Ethics would include Ethical Relativism, so too do discussions about Religions and Spirituality include those who think religion and spirituality don't have any good basis.
Even so, being an Atheist doesn't make someone spiritually dead. It all depends on what beliefs the person in question has.

Son, I AM a psychologist, so don't go trying to play shrink with me. You're not very good at it.
Now, atheists and agnostics (I am of the latter) post here because they have opinions to share about religion and spirituality.
In other words, they post here for the same reasons that you do.
Grow up and realize that there are people out there who disagree with you on some things, and they're not going away any time soon. So get used to it.

Believing in God is not an intellectual issue. Most of the brilliant minds tht ever lived believed in God. The problem is their heart. The fool hath said in his HEART, there is no God. Usually, there is some sin they don't want to give up. Usually it's sexual by nature although it could just be a proud/puffed up heart. Remember, the devil himself was full of pride which caused him to be cast out of heaven. Yet, there is no hope of salvation for the fallen angels, Jesus Christ died for mankind (those who accept his gift). Like Esau , athiest/agnostics are exchanging their birthright for a piece of bread.

Some people discuss religion to get away from it.
You are told Santa Claus exists your entire life and then you start to doubt it. There is an uneasy feeling as you lose your brain washing and need to come to terms with it.
It is like the feeling you get when you are fired from a job. No matter how bad it was. or when your wife beating husband finally leaves you. You just need to explore it and make sure it really happened.

I am proud that I am educated, understand evolution and physics, and that I am not so close-minded as to ignore other people's ideas and thoughts (including religious ones).
I am proud that I am a strong person who can deal with life's curveballs as they come, in my own way, which happens to be without the aid of religious belief or a "high power".
Why shouldn't I be proud?

I believe you are right. They don't want to believe there is anything/anyone more powerful than they are and they want to be able to live a sinful lifestyle free of any guilt or fear of consequence. Additionally, I'll bet 70-80% of the athiests posting on here are under 25 years of age.

Christians do the exact same thing. The difference between and atheist's attack and a christian's attack is that the atheist doesn't try to scare the christian into beliveing what they do. Christian's try to tell everyone who doesn't believe exactly as they do that they are going to hell. Stop trying to act like you're perfect.
