i've tried the internet sites that i know about, expedia, priceline etc. california(orange county) to WI (milwakee).
any TIPS OF THE TRADE about what to say to airlines? my grandpa is sick. prices have tripled in the last week. thanks in advance for all that help, respectfully i remain cecilia

The airlines have always been in the business of increasing fares for last minute tickets.

Go to www.southwest.com. I just put in a RT from OC to Chicago Midway and it came up with $319 "refundable anytime" price. I don't know what your specific dates are, so I just guessed.
Chicago Midway is only 1 hour south of Milwaukee by car. You can get an inexpensive car rental or look into buses/trains that run between Chicago and Milwaukee.

Ask around and see how you can get on standby - see if you have any friends that have family that work for airlines and can get you a buddy pass - this is how I got home just last week because my dad is sick. It was only $55 round trip - it is standby so it sucks - but just see if you have a friend of a friend or something that can do this for you.

You should try continentalairlines.com If that doesnt work, dont really know what to tell you...I have family in wisconsin, I'm sure they are up to a road trip, especially cali.
