I have a Lab myself, and a vet, he recomends the expeeeencive stuff to keep a big dogs joints lubed up, to begin at one year then senior food at 8 because large dogs have small life spans-----------------oouucchh------- But hes right my dog is 14 and still jumps in the back of my 4x4 truck with easy, huh boy. Good Dog!!! I would say now but also, Get him a Doc, he will thank you later.

You can start now, slowly, you need to mix his old food with the new. You should transition him onto the new food, so he doesn't get diarrhea as introducing new food too quickly can upset the good bacteria that live in the stomach that help digest the food. You should mix the food in these proportions:
Day 1: 25% adult with 75% puppy
Day 2: 50% adult with 50% puppy
Day 3: 75% adult with 25% puppy
Day 4: 100% adult.
If you're using a premium food, then they are suitable for all lifestages, even puppies.

You can start mixing adult food in with the puppy food at about 18 months. Start at 70% puppy 30% adult for 3-4 days, then 50% and 50% for 3-4 days and then completly switch over. YOu don't want to stop one food and start a new food ever. This can cause diarrhea and sometimes vomiting .

Now, slowly change over to the adult food by changing 1/4 cup of his puppy food to adult food the first day. Then 1/2 cup the second day until he is completely switched over. Good luck.

You can continue Puppy food, but switch to adult when growing stops. Good Luck !!
OH_ by the way, when you do switch, gradually mix big dog food with puppy chow each feeding- this will prevent gastric distress- ie: gas and diarehha.

you can start feeding him adult food at the age of one to one and a half,
However I advise that you bring him into the vet, for a check up and then go from there. But one is a fine age

When dogs turn one year old is when you start feeding then adult food. I had to do the same thing just recently with my dog who turned one year old. I asked the vet and she said that when they turn one.

I started my puppy on adult food around 5 months because he was growing so fast.
Talk to your vet, and if he is one than you should switch.

Most dogs are mature at one year, but since you have a lab, they take longer to mature since they are big dogs. I would wait another 6-8 months, maybe even a year.
