Morpheous: The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

Well its hard to see if this would be coming from an atheist view or a christian view. Either can be said about both sides.

Honestly you can see the system, the world is full of thousands of religions and they all say they are the right one, that they are the TRUTH. Basically you can just see the confusion within the human race, peoples beliefs are based on Geographical location for the most part. Entire modarn societies are based off of ancient religious texts. There is one TRUTH I am sure of and that one truth is outside of this Matrix of ideas we are currently living in.

I've heard of this comparison before, although it is hard to explain. I would say maybe, except the Matrix is full of violent gun fire and fighting. Then I remember those monstrous boys who killed all those kids at Columbine including a young Christian girl. Before killing her, they asked her to renounce her faith and she didn't (praise God) which leads me to believe these boys were demonically possessed. They were dressed up like Neo w/ the black overcoat and guns tucked inside. Even the secular media made the connection to the movie. I guess I'm changing my aswer to NO WAY! you cannot compare it to the Christian walk.

Heh, I'd say it's a good representation.. but the idea that Morpheus = God and Neo = Jesus might be a bit much for Christians to swallow.

But one could say this of any system.

Conservatives, liberals, Tigers fans, gun enthusiasts, free economists, bloggers.

Any system that is too rigid to accept divergent thinking is always going to be the enemy

The Matrix trilogy is loosely based on (its authors interpretation of) Christian beliefs. As is Superman.

That sounds like what an atheist rendition of what Christianity is all about.
