Without knowing the nature of the surgery which he has just undergone I can't speak credibly to what he will likely feel like doing, but your being there will be enormous comfort to him, and will help you survey what types of things may be suitably brought for your next visit. Consider also speaking with his treatment team for suggestions. That's an admirable undertaking; you're a good friend.

u shouldnt even have to ask. just get him dvds of a show or movie he likes, get him magazines and newspapers maybe so that he can keep in touch with whats happening in the outside world. But yea i wud really have to reccomend dvds of a good funny show like will and grace or something.

Get him a lot of things to do. But make sure you have things you enjoy for when he's sleeping. Get him a large pad of paper & several pens to write notes to you when he needs something. Stock the house with food & drinks so you won't have to leave him.
You are a true friend. I hope he sees it.

get him some puzzle books, some card games that he can play alone or with one other person.. a few dvds and some good music..
also get him some kinduva notepad and pen if he needs to write/remember anything..

i tell u what i went through the same thing and ppl gave me books,dvds,flowers,cards,balloons but the best gift was from my best friend and it was she was there for me.. she laid next to me and watched tv and i couldnt talk so we would write back n forth and it made my 2 weeks of staying in bed out of school and couldnt talk.. kinda nice..

yeah that would be a nice gesture - i think a dvd though - as that way you can watch it with him - you cant really sit and read a book with him!

u could get him something, he will apreciate it, but i think he'll b happy ur going 2 see him, so i wouldn't worry 2 much about the gift, but give him a hug, a kiss and many smiles, go brighten up his day :D
