I saw comments from a couple of particular individuals who will remain nameless on this website. One of these people's comments (questions) were usually sarcastic and derogatory toward God and the Bible. I suggested to this person that maybe if he would ask the questions in a more respectful way, that he would get a better response. This person did just that, he asked a respectful question, made some good suggestions on how to solve a problem, and was attacked by people claiming to be Christian. When atheists and others who don't like religion come to this website and are attacked by so called Christians claiming to follow Jesus teachings, all I can say is no wonder they are so turned off to the Bible's message. How many of us are attracted to God, the Bible or Jesus after being told we are "going to burn in hell"? Do you honestly expect to draw a person to God that way?

To those of you who do not believe in God, or do not agree with the Bible, please do not take the comments of people who treat you that way as being a sign of how God Himself feels about you. Jesus did not act that way toward people who did not share his belief. It looks to me like maybe everyone should practice something that came from the Bible but holds true whether you believe in God or not "Treat other people the way you want to be treated" This will draw a much better reaction from both sides.

I agree with you. I tried to make this same point. But, when you tell these Christians that are acting this way how bad it looks you just hear, "But the atheists are attacking Christians and being rude and blah blah blah." Like that is an excuse to be just like them. I even had some Christians assume that I was an atheist and began attacking me. Can you believe that? These are the people that give us a bad name.

As an atheist, I know any form of preaching, convincing, arguing, and pushiness by religious people tends to turn me right off of that religion. If I feel the need to bring religion into my life, it is a decision that I will make, and having a Christian try to force it on me has the opposite effect.

What bothers me is the violence that religion creates....Why is it necessary to make war over one's beliefs? How long has the mid east been at odds? And Ireland....and Iraq.
It's so unsettling, that so called Christians are so intolerant of anyone who does not think as they do. What happened to "turning one's cheek"? "Live and let live"?
I've always felt that religion is supposed to be about Love and Tolerance. However, that couldnt be further from the truth. :(

I have seen on this site people pretending to be Christians only to provoke hostility. I sometimes look at the way these peoples' profile and see how they asked or answered questions. I checked you out too and I do like your answers.

Good for you for getting that off your chest. I'm not Christian, worse still, I'm not an atheist, I'm....ta dum!!! Pagan! EEEEEieeee! People often tell me that I'm going to hell...last time I checked it wasn't on my travel itinerary. Thank you for showing me that there are some tolerant Christians out there. You've restored my faith in humanity.

Best post I've seen on here in awhile - actually refreshing. I'm not particularly religious myself, but you laid it out plain and simple. Well done. No additional comments necessary. Nice job.
