I think we should keep some people here to protect us.
Makes the most sense to me.

There are quite a number of United States military facilities closing but not for the reason you believe. The last Base Realignment and Closure Commission moved a huge number of troops back to the United States from both Germany and South Korea. In the case of the Army at least we will have far less forces overseas than ever before.

They are moving for several reason. It is a matter of money. The host governments overseas maybe paying a better price. But it is probably a strategic move beyond the money saving trend of closing US bases.
Our forces are being situated forward to increase our footprint in various locations in the world. With the aggressive nature of the Bush Administration's foreign policy, it stands to reason that they want forces planted it location where the military can readily influence events on the grounds.
In other words, possible troublesome countries will have to add nearby American Military installations into their calculations in terms of their military posture. So stationing our forces overseas is beneficial for a variety of reasons.
It is also true that military bases in the United States have contributed greatly to the economic conditions where a base is located. And, growing the economies of the cities and locals has been more of a factor in placing basing in the US. Now, with the Government in heavy red ink, the priorities have changed.
The Federal Government has decided that locating bases in the United States is no longer as important as gaining military influence over surrounding countries.
It certainly is hard medicine to swallow for areas that have depended on the military for steady employment and the infusion of cash that a military base distributes as a matter of everyday business. But, one could argue, and does I am sure, that this is a more dangerious world we live today that requires a more forward leaning military posture.
However, one of the main reasons that this is a more dangerious world is that countries that untilizy large and advanced military structures make a considerable income by selling the surplus milltary equipment and muntions which increases the threat from other countries to the United States. The US is the largest seller of military hardware in the world.

If there is something going on over seas that requires soldiers, then it's best to send as many as possible.

We should have learned something in Korea after we committed "Task Force Smith" to try to stop 30-thousand North Koreans and three Tank Brigades, with 500 US soldiers and a few 105 howitzers.

You can do a better job and save most of you troops when you either match the enemiy's strength or you exceed it. Trying to stop a massive force with a handful of troopers is stupid.

I think that its not that wise because terrorist will see the advantage for them to attack in the US if there are barely any military force in the country! I think that they should have just enough overseas where its not over done and leave reserves and others here to defend if something happened! What if a Civil War broke out and then what or another Katrina, but worst and they needed military support? that would be bad so I think the military is doing a good job right now, but that's enough no more deployments in the thousands unless there are too many that CAN be deployed!

it is smart to send our troops over seas
no country will declare war with us so our armed forces are maily used to do someone elses dirty work
it is also used for humanitarian missions alot
a spread military force is a mobile military so we can reach any target at any time
however our airforce is still maily based in the u.s. because we have the ability of long range bombers and refueling
