On the receiving end, I'd prefer to have something like some hope harbouring, but it'd only get worse.
Chemistry can form eventually, that'll be her reasoning.
I think all you need to do is tell her to wait, and don't guarantee anything, tell her you can't guarantee anything, that you will wait and see. Then slowly wean her off you, like easing off contact.
She'll get the hint and back off I hope.
No girl's going to be so desperate as to cling on even with such a rejection.
Just straight-in-the-face rejection will probably cause a sense of hanging-on, if you know what i mean. She'll continue bugging you due to disbelief.
This is less hurtful too, friendships actually get ruined when you say "can we just be friends"
Which is why, slow and deliberate.

You can't tell her without hurting her feelings. It's a sad fact. Tell her the truth, just like you said it here. She's a good friend, a nice person, but you don't feel that there's any chemistry with her.
I have been in her place, and in yours. It's really painful for both of you, especially if you want her to continue to be your friend. She may want to continue the friendship--I know I did.
Don't tell her she deserves better, or that you are flattered. I don't know why, but that made me NUTS! I guess it's because she thinks you are the best, and because she's not trying to flatter you, she's telling you her real feelings.

No matter what she is going to be hurt. You can be nice about it and just bluntly say...I love you as a friend but thats all. Tell her she is a really sweet girl and you hope the best for her with someone else. If she really likes you she will still be hurt but if your nice about it...maybe you can remain friends!

there isn't a way to tel her without hurting her, especially if she's sensitive. i hate to tell you that, but that's the way it is. your gonna hurt her even if you say, "your a really great person but i just don't feel the same way, i care about you, but we're friends, & that's all i can feel for you, i'm sorry." it'll still upset her, but not as much as some stuff. there really is no way to tell a girl who is crazy for you that you dont like her that way without hurting her feelings. the best thing to do would be to tell her that you enjoy her company but you only see her as a friend.

The best way is to not beat around the bush. Tell her straight out. There is no easy way to do this.
