i think guy asking girl is a whole lot better, in my opinion.

Quite a good question actually.
I think that regardless of female liberalism and similar social aspects, women still secretly like a man who can 'protect' them; whether that is through financies, good company etcetc.
However, the time of women has been growing stronger every decade and they have amassed great power in many ways. It is for this reason that women must realize men have become increasingly self conscious as a whole in the last twenty years and females now have a repsonsibility to even the playing field.
There are many men, including myself who find it very admirable for a woman to approach a man, but it has to be done in a more subtle way, over time and in a respectable manner.
At the end of the day, if you care about someone, express your feelings, the worst that can happen is they don't feel the same way; if you don't, they'll never know and love may never happen.
Besides women have less of an ego, and pride is not much of an issue, so what's your excuse :) ?

or when there is no need to ask: it just happens.
speaking as an intolerably shy guy in real life, i hate it when the pressure to ask is put on the guy. why should i ask when all i'm gonna get is rejection? every girl has about 10 blokes queueing up for them. i don't go in for competition. only for truth. if she likes me, why wouldn't she ask me? i've never got the ting were girls are like 'ooh i can't decide which bloke is better'. you should already know! stop leading those poor dudes around!
anyway, phew, lost in a private angst there for a minute. sorry.

I would say both
it really doesn't matter
y should a women have to wait for a man to ask her out and men like to be ask just like women go for it
ask him out if you need help with what to say contact me .
