I have the mirena, and yes, when it is inserted it is very uncomfortable and the cramping is pretty bad for about 20 minutes or so. Then it goes away and you have no problem. It's worth it to, I'm mean 5 years baby free to me is worth 20 minutes of a little discomfort. I've had mine for over a year now and I don't have my periods anymore either, which is another plus.

Yes, They tried three times with me.My doctor finally decided to put me to sleep and do it. he really wanted me to have this. There will be bleeding the first couple of months and than it will stop all together. the thing they did not tell me was hair loss. This happens a lot to people.I have a lot of hair but if you have thin hair I would definitely not get it.Good Luck!
