I enjoy and yes, I think you should eat it for dinner if you fancy it. Here in the States, we're finding out that our beloved "Chinese American" food is very unhealthy. A handful of broccoli tossed into every dish doesn't instantly mean "healthy." Everything is inevitably covered in an oily sauce with huge amounts of salt, sugar and MSG, not to mention fermented things. Since everyone says Chinese American is unique to the USA, I've always wondered what Chinese food is like in Britain. It may be far healthier fare than here in the land of Chinese Buffets.

Most Chinese food from restaurants is high in calories and fat because a lot of it is fried, cooked with fatty sauces, etc. You could cook Chinese food at home that is mostly vegetables plus rice or noodles (and small amounts of meat if you want) with soy sauce, etc., and that could be very healthy and low-cal. But the egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, etc., will pack on the pounds!
And most people have to exercise to lose weight, along with a healthy diet. The exercise burns calories but even more important it will keep your metabolism up so that you burn calories at a higher rate all day (dieting can lower your metabolism so you don't lose!)

Well the question that I would need to ask you is, do you go to a chinese restaurant or do you make it yourself?
If you go to an actual restaurant then my answer would be No it is not healthy for you. When Chinese restaurants open, they tend to add alot of oils, grease and other unnesessary ingridents to the various foods.
If you make authentic Chinese food yourself, they tend not to have red meat in their meals, they replace that with fish. Even the fish itself is in smaller portions. Also they eat more vegitables more then anything, and they use little oils and those oils tend to be healthy for you( soil is not healthy). As for how you want the vegitables cooked, steaming them is good but its really a matter of preference.
The rice is steamed, and not fried. Also putting soy sauce is kind of looked down apoun. That is something (I could be wrong on this one) that Western Culture adopted.

Is Chinese food good for your health.... I think it depends what it is, generally rice and beans are good for you but some of the american chinese dishes are very high in fat so choose lowfat dishes, more veggies, and less fried meats. Good luck, I used to be 100 lbs and now am 135, but thats from having 2 kids, I cant get rid of it because of the metabolism change and have to excersize more and eat less.

The North Americanised version of chinese food is not at all healthy to eat that often. If you pay attention to what the workers in these restaurants prepare for their own meals, then you're talking healthy. I have asked while in the resto for the authentic chinese food that I've seen them eating, but was told I would not like it. I guess they don't add all of the sauces and sweet stuff that north americans love so much, to their own.

Traditional Chinese cuisine is very healthy. It typically consists mostly of vegetables, fish, and rice.
However, typical Americanized Chinese is not healthy. It's overprocessed, and high in saturated fats.
The key to any diet is moderation. Unless you are Chinese and are eating traditional home cooked meals, I think you should limit yourself to chinese once per week at the most.

It depends, the greasy food isn't good for you. Rice, and the non fried vegetables are great for health though! In china, you won't see many fat or obese people there because they actually eat the real foods there, and not the fast food chinees restruants you usually see here in america. I love rice, and there is actaully a plan called the "rice diet". I havn't ever tried that plan, but it sounds neat!

Chineese food tends to be very high in sodium and often contains the flavor enhancer monosodium glutamate. These two ingredients are damaging to your health and can give you high blood pressure as well as loads of other problems. I doubt that it's the reason you gained 35 lbs, but suggest trying something different for a while to see if you can drop your weight.
Best wishes.
