why am I vilified by potential mates for this?
I am being honest and up front with this situation.
I had a wonderful childhood.
I never wanted for anything.
I have no need to fix anything in the next generation.

Why do some men get bent way out of shape at my statement?

I don't think that it's strange. Because, I'm one of the women! Heehee. I feel that having a child, deprive me of your freedom and the pain that I have to go through. Heehee. Maybe only for me.

I prefer having my freedom. Doing what I want to.

They probably wanted kids from a younger age or something.
But I agree with you on the situation, I'm never going to have kids at all. And that is because I am selfish.

I think because they feel women need to have children to feel complete and if they do not want them, then that means they are selfish. Men also usually want their name to carry on, so that of course means having kids. Do what is right for you.
