We will be going for my son's 6 month portraits soon (we're going newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 18 months & so on) to Sears, & they have their backgrounds & props & stuff, but I don't want something that everybody else has done. Does anybody have any good ideas that we could bring stuff from home or just do quickly? He sits up on his own, but cannot crawl. I'd like some functional & easy, but different ideas please. Thank you!

I found some very cute pictures that you could try. I found one with an infant sitting up but kind of leaning in with his hands in a fish bowl playing with toy fish. He was wearing his swimming trunks of course :) I also found one that I thought was absolutely adorable. It was just the baby sitting with no shirt on with just a plain background and he had a blanket in his hands and it was in his mouth a little. You could also try this one that I saw. It was black and white and it was a close up of the face. He was wearing a red and white striped hat and the hat was in color but the rest was in black and white. He wasn't smiling or anything, he just had one of those adorable looks on his face. And the last good one I saw was of a baby boy sitting in overalls playing with blocks and the blocks spelled out his name in front of him and he had another block in his hand that he was kind of chewing on. Anyway, I hope those help! :)

If you want something different, do the photos yourself. I had a "photo shoot" with my 2 kids at home. I took the lamp shade off of my lamp for lighting. I hung an old lace curtain on the wall, had my little girl dressed in just a bonnet and bloomers and an old wooden child's rocking chair. I had them developed in black and white and they turned out really cute! My son was dressed in some denim overalls with the legs rolled up, no shirt, and a little stuffed frog. The photots actually looked professional. I just went to CVS and had them cropped and printed into a package deal on their photo machine. Much cheaper than Sears and I got some really good candid shots instead of just a pose.

I like Sears please don't get me wrong but the pics you get are just poses , have you thought of maybe looking for a company that takes photos of your children while they are actually playing, interacting with other children and YES even eating. Or even take the baby to the park and take your own pics then go have them developed and most Walgreen's have a photo computer that you can create your own portrait packages with. After doing this I don't think I could EVER go back to "Pose" pictures again.

We did a cute one at Sears when my son was 6 months, where they put him in a washtub, with a blanket and his picture outfit draped over a nearby chair. It came out absolutely adorable. You could bring a favorite towel and bath toy from home to make it more personal.

Since it's still summer, you could put him in his bathing suit with a colorful beach towel and a pail and shovel to hold as props.

At this age, the most important thing is to capture their darling little personalities. Good luck!

When my lil girl was 6 months, I took her to Kiddie Kandids and they put thee cutest angel wings and her with a halo of flowers on her head with a dark blue sky background, The most adorable pictures Ive ever seen. You have the option with or w/o diaper. She's lying on her belly and has clouds around her.
I also did the baby in the wash tub with bubbles and the whole scene
And of coarse we had to get our White Sox pictures.
You can use whatever you want and they will accomodate you, no matter how long it takes.

I've never really liked props or bright/busy/colorful backgrounds. Most of them are pretty cheesy, and honestly, I think it takes away from the baby! If I were you, I'd go with a plain blue background and have your baby be the center of attention. That's the whole point in having his picture taken. :)

My son was a preemie and had a Beanie baby sized bear with a rattle that was in the incubator with him and I get his pics taken with it so we can see the difference in his size. He will be 2 on Thurs and I will be taking him next week for his two year pics with the same bear.
