Not necessarily because the people who want to smoke it already do regardless if it is legal or not.

It might a little bit, but the percentage of people who smoke pot is surprisingly small overall. Besides the people on whom pot smoking will have the greatest impact weigh-wise are those that overeat already and are therefor probably overweight already. Additionally if you already have healthy eating habits and you get "the munchies", you're going to eat something healthy like fruits, vegetables, etc. If the the first thing you reach for when you're hungry is a bacon triple cheeseburger with Alfredo dipping sauce on the side, chances are you're considered obese already.

The basis behind your question is that supposedly people high on weed eat a lot, right? I've been at lots of parties and gatherings where people were smoking and no one ran to the snack table to eat it all. I think it's a stereotype perpetuated by movies and TV. Mostly I see people getting giggly and talking slower.
I know lots of potheads and while a few of them are chunky (in line with other Americans) not one of them is obese, and most of them aren't even overweight. Pot is expensive and if you smoke a lot you haven't got a lot of money left over for food.

If it became legal people probably wouldn't want to smoke it anymore. What will probably happen is someone will come up with some sort of new products that will likely lessen the effects of smoking marijuana. It will be sold behind the counter in convenience stores is some sort of pretty packaging instead of the little baggie you get on the corner. And it won't be pure, toxic ghanja anymore, it will probably be mixed with something else like tobacco.

The only change that will happen is that all us....a-hem, I mean, the pot smokers will come out of the closet, so to speak. There won't be many more smokers, the ones that already smoke will just not be in hiding any more.
Besides, people have been smoking pot FOREVER. Obesity is a new 'phenomenon' with blame on a society of gimme gimme gimme as much as possible as fast as possible, IMMEDIATELY!

No. Americans get obese because they eat too much. They might get slimmer, because they have another outlet for their stress that is legal. I would bet that they wouldn't see any link at all after a couple years.

Sorry, I fail to see the connection between legalization of a recreational drug and obesity... therefore, i can't answer the question in accordance.

No. Yes some people may get "the munchies", but not everyone. Also it would give folks something to do with their hands other than eating while watching TV.
