Always stand on 17, hit 16. The dealer is then put into a situation where they must take a second card, if they get a 7 then there is no winner, as the dealer stands on 17.

If they get a 6 or less, then they will hit either going over or staying under 21.

Or if there second card is an 8 or higher they win. If they get an Ace then they have a natural Blackjack.

for the people saying hit, what is the logic behind hitting? So you can bust yourself thinking that the dealer is gonna beat you rather than staying and having better chances that the dealer doesnt have a very good card? you people make no sense at all

It depends.... if you have an Ace and a 6 or a "soft seventenn" then you hit.... the house doesn'' you should to. If you have a King, Queen, Jack, or Ten with a 7 then I would stay.

You can look up basic BJ strategies like this here...

You stay! Doesn't matter if he's probably beating you (which he is).... The thing is there's only ace two three four that will help you, and him, you never know what he has underneath his ten. He probably has a face card, but the thing is...... YOU CANNOT DEAL YOURSELF OUT. Never deal yourself out, meaning, don't bust yourself. That is the worst mistake you can make, and even if you do lose the hand to his higher card, at least you know you didn't force yourself to lose by busting. Just don't bust! I f you're gonna get beat, make it the dealer beating you while you have to live cards.

You must never hit on a 17. Hitting on 16 is also extremely risky.

The correct answer is to stay. See this page for the best possible odds in Blackjack. http://www.livehand.com/blackjack/blackjack-strategy.php
