This question is for Christians. If you are a non-Christian feel free to add to the conversation in an intelligent manner otherwise feel free to post elsewhere.

Gal 5:19-23 reads:
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

I have known many non-Christians that strongly display the fruits of the Spirit and not the deeds of the flesh. Moreover the manifestation of these virtues seems to be imbedded in the person’s spirituality.

What would be the source of these fruits in the life of a non-Christian?

ROMANS 2:13-15
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

We are all created in God's image. Not his physical image, but with his qualities. The Fruitage of the Spirit is a demonstration of those qualities and that is why you will see some people who are not Christians display these qualities. The Bible says: “For whenever people of the nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these people, although not having law, are a law to themselves. They are the very ones who demonstrate the matter of the law to be written in their hearts, while their conscience is bearing witness with them and, between their own thoughts, they are being accused or even excused.” (Romans 2:14, 15)

'Moral' does not come from knowing God. Morale comes from experiences and the reslutls we see. Learning from what happens in the news, and the choices we would want. They come from everywhere around us. Not from believing in Jesus Christ or praying.

Non-Christians have a good hearts too.

Notice the fact that you said 'Non-Christians'. This could range from Atheists/Agnostics to Buddhists, to Muslims to Pagans. From Sikhs to the Jewish.

Atheists/Agnostics mak e up just a small part of everybody else who has any kind of faith. So many people also have their own source of divinty, with moral codes and laws. Ethics, etc. They have their own source, you have yours.

Well, the Bible is clear that without faith it is impossible to please God. The "Fruits of the Spirit" may be similar to the "Gifts of the Spirit" in these ways. First, Spiritual Gifts are "from faith." Meaning, that they are received and exercised through faith. So, without faith, one cannot have gifts that have their source in the Spirit. Second, Spiritual Gifts are for the purpose of strengthening the faith of others. So, Spiritual Gifts not used for that reason is incorrectly applied.

The bottom line is this: God is not pleased by good acts when they do not have in them a basis in faith in God, and in His Son, by which we have faith. Isaiah 1-2 talks about several things that Israel was doing that God had commanded, but that He wasn't pleased with because they didn't pursue them through faith.

Faith is a gracious gift from God that unlocks further grace in our lives, even the grace to strengthen others.

First I would point out that the Bible says FRUIT not FRUITS. So now the Bible says that the fruit of the Spirit is love and everything listed after is simply a bi-product of love. To find out about love read 1 Cor.13. If you have any questions about the passage or my answer please contact me.

someone instilled "morals" in them. we learn by example. those fruits that you see in non-Christians are there only because they were raised that way, by someone who obviously did have the fruits of the spirit.
