I'm from Germany, where everyone has to learn it at school for six years.

My first language is Spanish and I moved to USA when I was 17. It was hard for me to learn since I had to go to school and I didn't understand a word, so I got 'F' all the time, but I managed to overcome the situation with an electronic translator, watching TV in English, music, etc. After I graduated from High School I took two years of English with Academic Purposes in College...and now, I'm pretty fluent. I still have a little bit of an accent, but I'm fine. I'm taking regular classes in College and I'm about to transfer to a University ;)

I started learing it when I was 5. I had my own tutor until I was 10 and then, until I was 18, I was in a special intensive English class. And now I'm a Translation Studies major.
TV, music and books and having the chance to talk to native speakers and to travel played an important role as well!

I learned in College, I had a very good teacher, strict, but good, I listened to Songs in english, I translated them, I had a dictionary, I always looked for words I didn't know, I talked to americans or Canadians whenever I had the chance, made friends, I used to Chat in English, And Whenever I went to the movies in Mexico I tried not to read the subtittles in Spanish, Basically if you can be in an environment of English Language, That helps you a lot.

GOOD LUCK!

I was learning english at school (for 8 years) because there's no option - you must learn two foreign languages in school:) (lithuania). Now i continue english studies at university. But films and music are probably the best teachers for me :)

I went to a bilingual private school in my country, so when I came to USA I already knew how to read and speak a little english, and since I came very small, I learned the rest in school.

My first words were in Baby Language. The basic was GooGoo Gaga, which meant ,"Gimme a damn bottle." Then sadly my parents forced me to forget most of my language.Leading me to use this crappy language,English.I much prefer other languages than English...Not including German..

i learned it in school. it's mandatory in my country.

you must be really good to learn it by yourself. until now i'm still learning especially the correct pronunciation. it's really different if your talking to a native english speaker
