Generally, when people talk about their salaries in Dubai, they are talking about monthly sums. However, if you are talking to a labor recruiter, make sure to verify that is the case. Note that there is no minimum wage in Dubai, and that housemaids have the least protection of all under the law.

If you sign a contract for a particular amount, keep in mind that only the Arabic version is "binding". Also, it's not uncommon for one salary to be promised before you leave home and for another salary to be stated (1/3 as much or less) once you actually get there, and for salaries to be paid irregularly (sometimes not at all) by private employers.
