They're married to Jesus. He has sex with them all once a year. That's where the Santa Claus story comes from.

The forgoing of physical pleasure is an aspect of faith. They don't seek physical pleasure, wealth, or fame because they give up their worldly desires for a higher purpose: serving God.

And I know many a Non-Nun that doesn't satisfy themselves. I even know some that can go years without sex........ so while it's a basic human need, it's not an all consuming one.

Think of it this way: communication is a basic need. if we don't have a group to belong to, we'll suffer depression and possibly try to kill ourselves (this is a proven psychological fact). Yet there are people who take a vow of silence and/or solitude. This shows immense self-control. It is their way of understanding the smaller, less 'important' aspects of everyday life.

Grace unto you and peace,
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Perhaps a modern nun is similar to a biblical handmaid(female slave), and a handmaid of the Lord(possessor of a thing possessed) is a servant(slave) of the Lord(Law). Perhaps some nuns and handmaids get overshadowed by a Ghost, or a high priest thereof Ghostly Law. And perhaps an old high priest overshadowing a handmaid produces a new high priest, of a dividead law/law God on high, where it's law either way, whether left or right of such hands, which are both notably fearful to "fall" into, as if fallen from grace, which is above such law law.

Perhaps the higher calling of grace(above such law law) is "thou art no more a servant(slave)"; neither a servant(slave) of sin nor a servant(slave) of righteousness.

For in heaven ("higher than the heavens", the heavens on high) there are no servants(slaves). In heaven everyone is free, by know the truth: "grace is sufficient" (no law req'd).

The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Sex is only a basic need if you let it be a basic need. Nun's have devoted their lives to God. It's called self control. They don't see sex that way, so they don't think about it as much as you do. So therefore it's not a problem for them. They don't need it. Their lives are full the way they live. But for kids like you, sex is all you think about and so you think sex is all there is.

Sex is not a basic human need. Not all people need to have sex. Alot of people can lead very happy lives being celibate. There is nothing wrong leading a celibate life, some people just know that sex is not that important and know how to control themselves. Lust is what makes people think they can not live without sex. Once you rid your mind of animalistic behaviour, you can lead a very rewarding and happy life without sex. Nuns and priests who are true to their vows are living their lives to and for God and not for themselves.

The sexual drive is a basic necessity of humans, but it can be channeled in different ways. One of these ways is by religion. The ecstacy experienced by a sexual release doesn't even come close to a truly spiritual encounter with God. I hope this helps.

Honestly, I think they try to avoid it as one would try to avoid poison. It is documented that Sir Thomas Moore used self-flagellation (whipping oneself), as did (do?) many monks and nuns, to rid themselves of the "evil need." I do not know if it is still practiced today but it is suggested in the book "The DaVinci Code" that it is a modern practice as well.

I think when they became a Nun that they also took an oath of celibacy. If you love God as much as they do then sexual desire is not on their "to do list." They will have gratification when it's time.

Why does everyone presume that one cannot live without sex? Sex is nice but it is not life itself nor is it neccesary.Granted one may desire sex but one does not require it. It is not the same as oxygen or food.

They aren't supposed to. Whether or not they do is another question...but you'd have to ask a nun.

Yes it's a need/desire, but the whole point of their existence is about denial.
