Take him to a vet...a dog vomiting is never a good sign. He could have himself gotten something poisonous to eat or might have some kind of food poisoning. If you're comfortable, observe your dog for two to four more hours, but if he's lethargic and not drinking, you better take him to a vet right away.

I suggest you take it to the vet because it could be a stomach or intestinal virus, parasite or simply inappropriate eating (like garbage or fences). Often younger dogs are more likely to vomit because they simply have yet to learn what not to eat. He may be allergic to his food. If you think this may be the case, try a different type and see how he reacts.
But the main thing is to take him because you might want the vet to know WHAT is the problem

well....he could have food poisoning. Did he get into any garbage? My dog got into a garbage bag that my brother was about to take outside, and he ate some of this....roast beef I think, from a few nights ago. He started vomitting and wouldn't touch his food, either. We took him to the vet, and he got a shot, and gave us some pills to give to him twice daily. It was under a hundred bucks. He was better in a couple days. You should take him to the vet and get him checked out.

Dogs vomit every once in a while...randomly...because of an upset stomach or over exertion or a hairball, etc.. You don't need to take him to the vet every time it happens...it will make you poor. Only take him if it is excessive.
You can feen your dog canned pumpkin to ease his stomach. Not pumpkin pie filling, but real canned pumpkin. Also, you can give him a little pepto bismol...dogs generally react well to it.

Look at what was in his/her stomach. My dog throws up occasionally and it's because she eats sticks, rocks, grass, etc. If that's the case then they'll regain their appetite shortly. But if he/she is shaking or can't stand up or appears to be in pain, then they could have ingested slug bait or something like that and need to go to the vet.
