Why not? He did dine with a Pharisee once.

Jesus was not politically partisan. Neither did he judge by membership.

How many hippies have gone into a church to break the tables where they sell videos, cd's and books?

Good point. He was a counter-culture radical. That is why the jews wouldn't accept him as the Messiah. They expected the Messiah to lead them, in armed uprising, against the Romans. Jesus said 'give to the Romans that which belongs to the Romans'. This could just be a metaphor for taxation, but he pointedly avoided going the way of the earlier self-proclaimed Messiahs, who all got killed by the Romans for inciting violence and working up the masses. Considering the times, place, and issues there, he did and said very little about the Romans and was kinda a 'free-love' kinda guy.

As for being a hippie, that is not a consideration. Jesus does love all of us, does encourage peace and abhors violence.

As for acid, marijuana, open sexuality, protesting authority and elders...not a chance!

Who would admit that they stooped down to have a fancy dinner with rich Republicans when so many people are unemployed and starving in our country? Not me, not Jesus.

Many of them used to be hippys too. After their midlife crisis, their Jesus image just evolved to conform with their new self image.

I want to blow bubbles with Jesus. Then he can come over my house and share a joint with me. Blessed be.
