I have friends here in Canada from Morroco and Tunisia who go to McGill university. They have their permanent residence status. What class are you applying for? The Morrocan applied as a skilled worker but he was married.

They have a Quebec info at http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/anglais/immigration/permanent-worker/step.html

I'm not sure about the rest of Canada...I would spend a day and research http://www.cic.gc.ca/ or call and speak with someone there and tell them your situation and they will help you.

Unfortunately, the process may last 8-10 months.

I didn't immigrate from Morroco or Tunisia but it took a little over a year for me to gain permanant resident status under a family sponsorship (my husband and I married during the process). Beyond monetary, there was really nothing to the process beyond filling out paperwork, providing a police check and a doctors report. There was no interview process at all - I never spoke with anyone. Good luck.

I suggest you check out www.immigration.ca This site will help you very much. There are a lot of people immigrating to Canada. I currently am sponsoring my US citizen husband to live here. If you have a spouse that is a Canadian citizen, the process only takes 4-6 months.

I went to a picnic recently and met some Moroccans there, and a few arrived here in Canada after what they said was only 10 months wait. Some came here as a landed immigrant, some came here under the "live-in-caregiver program" where you work as a nanny for 2 years before you are elegible to apply for permanant status. Check out the website provided...it is a long process. Depending on how you are doing it. My husband is from the US and I am sponsoring him...could take anywhere from 6 months to 16months depending on where & how you are applying. Don't get discouraged it does take a bit.

You will love it here...
