You shouldn't pray for things for yourself
this makes god angry
he will however lend a hand during your high school basketball game
but won't help a starving child
what a kooky guy

While God knows how things will turn out, that doesn't mean that He has decided (ie, willed) things to turn out that way. For example, it is the will of God that everybody should be saved (1 Timothy 2:4), but not everybody will be (Matthew 7:13-14).
We pray to God primarily because we rely on Him. He, as a loving Father, is willing to do so much for us, but in many cases He is waiting for us to ask.

When I was a young Christian I also believed that you should ask for all kinds of things. As I read the Word and gained more wisdom and knowledge in the Word I realized the Lord knew these things and just wanted me to love and praise Him and He would take care of the rest.I have total faith in the Lord for all things, and He always makes a way even when there does not seem to be a way through. This is living by faith day by day. I could give you dozens of examples but I will not. You wouldn't believe me, which is fine.

I dont pray for God to do things for me. When I pray to the Lord, I thank Him for having mercy on me and saving me...I thank him for the food that he provides and for each day that I do have good health...I pray for those that are lost and I pray for Him to work in my heart and life to love more and to be a better christian. One day I will get sick and die...I wont ask him to heal me, i will ask him to take me home. Sickness is part of the sin curse and we must all die in some form or fashion. Real prayer is thanksgiving and praise to Him

Just because you know the outcome does not mean there are not things you can change for the better that come before the end. I can know I will get a diploma or degree but it does not mean I won't have to do extra work or maybe go a different route than I had planned on to get there.

It's not necessarily things you want. you confide in him about decisions you make... things that goes on daily in your life. you seek for guideance and support. The other thiing to help us have postive attitude to be able to deal with people like you each day.
Yes he has already decided how things will turnout but to keep it in the right path and direction you pray for the giudeance to be able to complete that step he has planned for you.

Because you still ahve to pray. You have to have that communication with him. God already know what you need before you even ask him.
But you have to show that you need the Lord's help you have to talk to him and pray and ask him.

Great question. The reason is because He tells us to. I believe that God is sovereign over all things. He purposed everything according to His will before the world began, for the purpose of displaying His glory to the entire world. One way that I contribute to magnifying His glory is to obey Him.
The grace that has confirmed my salvation through His Son is the same grace that will confirm my perseverence in faith and obedience. God gives me the grace to obey Him, when my natural tendency (without grace) is to disobey Him and serve myself.

I mean, come on, just because he knows everything isn't a reason to say you don't have to do anything. Don't be intellectually lazy here. He *knew* you were going to pray, so he made decisions based on that.
The only difference his foreknowledge makes in that case is that he can be acting on our behalf BEFORE we ever ask him, knowing that we will ask him.

You are right ,He does know how things will turn out, but He doesn't make them happen. He knows what you will choose to do, but He doesn't make you do it. Why not pray and ask for His help to make life easier?
