I'm in the same predicament. I'm 18, my boyfriend is 22 and my dad hates him because he works at Valvoline. My dad is a mechanic and thinks badly of anyone who works at Valvoline, Jiffy lube, etc because they aren't as good as he is. I dislike my dad anyway, so I basically told him that he could either accept my boyfriend or forget about being on good terms with me. It's worked so far and we've been together for over a year.

At your age, you should be allowed to decide things for yourself really.
Sure it nice of your Mum to be looking out for you, but its about time she let you learn through your own mistakes in life, she just needs to be there to catch you if you fall.
Probably not the easiest thing to do...sit back and watch the child you brought in to the world, make mistakes that you know is going to end with them being hurt but some point in there lives it has to happen!
Try explaining to your Mum that is doesnt matter if she approves of your boyfriend or not, you are still going to have a relationship with him either way but you would prefer it if she was a bit happier about it though.
You could try asking her to stop treating you as if you were a child, and tell her that you you will always need her, and you want to be able to go to her for advice when yoou need to but thats what it will be-advice!
Good luck in this, i hate to think what i will be like when my 3 kids want to move on etc!! I know that my parents had the same sort of problem when they met, they buggered off to Scotland to get married and at the time my Nan gave them 6months of marriage together....they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary 10days ago!!
So dont give up!!
xx

if shes 18 - then shes an adult and can do anything she wants with anyone she wants whether its a 22 or 52 year old guy. you can offer advice and let her know how you feel, but that would be the end of it.

It relies upon on the 17 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous and the 22 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous. i'm 17 and my boyfriend is now 21, and my mothers and fathers are tremendous with the relationship. i'm no longer pregnant, and could no longer get pregnant.

Aren't you considered an adult at 18? Your parent(s) have invested a lot in your education which they feel you could be throwing away. Personally, I feel, you should take onboard their concerns.

How much inheritance do you stand to lose by pissing off your mom? Does your mom pay your present bills? College tuition? How much sway does she have over you?

Secondly: Is your mom seeing something you are purposely ignoring? is this guy a friggin loser?
