I got braces a few days ago, and I can't eat anything!! It hurts to bad. And it's so uncomfortable when the brackets rub against my lip. I have to have these things for a year and a half. Please help me to learn how to eat and cope with these things!

I'm an adult with braces and, believe me, it will get better. Use your wax on trouble areas - it really really helps. Eat ice cream, yogurt, or anything soft that does not require chewing. You'll be a pro at braces in no time. Don't get discouraged; you will see and feel results in no time. Hang in there and good luck!

I had them for 2 years. Don't worry, the pain will ease up soon. The pain is only there right after a tightening. Your doctor should've provided you with some wax to put over them, this keeps them from rubbing against the inside of your mouth. Get some wax and then just eat soft foods until the pain eases up. It will go away, I promise! Then you just have to deal with for a few days after each tightening. I remember crying sometimes, but it was so worth it. Just hang in there! Oh and anbesol helps too!

Well, the first few days you won't be able to eat anything but soft things. You can take some asprin for the pain. For the discomfort of the braces rubbing on your lips, your dentist should have given you some wax for that. The pain will go away soon and you'll be able to eat again.

you can get wax at the drug store to go around the brackets if they are cutting your lips

As for the hurt, that does go away, but it will hurt for about a week, then it will hurt for a few hours when you get them rechecked.

Stick with softer foods, soup doesnt' hurt too bad, avoid bread/chewy/really crunchy things

I had braces for almost 2.5 years. The beginning is tough - eat lots of apple sauce, mashed potatoes, etc. itll get easier. i took advil when the pain got tough but youll eventually get used to it. i asked my doctor for special wax things for when they cut through my lip id put it over the bracket. good luck :)

Take some tylenol or advil, and wait it out. It will hurt after every adjustment, too. Have soft foods waiting at home, and have wax to go over the brakets. It'll get better soon, and it'll be worth it in the end!

They usually have some soft wax you can put on your brackets so they dont irritate you, after a few months, your mouth gets use to it, it wont irriate you anymore, thats how it was with me, i had mine for 2 1/2 yrs. your skin will start to tollerate it.
