No, but they all went through immigration and entered the country legally. They had to go through a lot more than people do now. No one ever said that immigrants aren't welcome - they just need to do it LEGALLY.

It was never intended to be a melting pot every race that the euro settlers encountered, the melting pot idea is a fallacies of the us government to pacify what had by that point developed into the lower class and in some rare cases middle class. However the effects of WWI1 and ww2 changed things and the exploited were given a chance due to the fact that so many people had died the holes had to be filled, but the idea that America was founded as a melting pot is bull, and it is this easy to see why the guys that wrote all that all men created equal stuff your pot builders if you will, owned slaves and actively participated in genocide against native Americans, so it becomes kinda of clear what they meant was all white MEN where created equally

Because sweetie, the majority of them nowadays are brown skinned, and that scares people. Sorry to say it but it's true. The fact of the matter is this, there are plenty of jobs out there that a person can do, but they will not for a few reasons. One, not the kind of pay they want. Two, not the kind of work they want, or too hard of a work. Three, sometimes it's easier to collect federal aid than to work for your money. I don't belive it's because of the illegals that the country is in the state that it is. If you hear illegals don't pay taxes, well that's not true. They do pay federal taxes as well as sales taxes. They do work, and are very good people. I think the real criminals would be our own government who spend our tax dollars on things that the American people don't agree like the "star wars" project, how about the war? Another thing that I hear is "they are criminals, rapists and such" well, if that's the case and we wanna get rid of them for that, we should get rid of the millions and millions of Americans that are criminals, that havent' been caught, that are still commiting these crimes. No society is crime free, and to put the blame on one group of people is just closeminded and ignorant if you ask me. No sweetie, we can't let "them" in because they take jobs, jobs that we wouldn't do. Because they commit crimes, crimes that the majority of people commiting are "our" own citizens. They don't pay taxes, taxes that they do pay if they ever buy anything at the store, and taxes that are paid to the federal government.

You say it's racist, I think you're right. The word is "illegal immigrant", of no specific country or race. Why then when the word "illegal" is mentioned, does it follow with a "go back to mexico", since when do chinese, philipino, russian and turkish illegals come from Mexico?

Unfortunately, we have to have some control because of the new dangers presented in the modern era that did not exist in previous centuries.

For one thing, the threat of large-scale terrorism is something we have to look out for now. Back in the 1800's we didn't have to worry about religious radicals sneaking in and trying to blow up thousands of people.

We also face a higher health threat from immigrants. Any time you introduce living things from another part of the world- including people- you run the risk of introducing new diseases into your country. That was a danger when the country was young, but it's even worse now. The population density of the nation is much higher, and travel is exponentially faster, so a new disease poses a much greater threat than it did when Americans mostly lived on isolated farms.

Finally, there are a lot more public services now than there were when we allowed nearly unchecked immigration. When this country was young, things like welfare, public schools, public utilities, and public hospitals were either much smaller or non-existent. Immigrants didn't put a strain on new communities, since the immigrants had to either pull their own weight or find somewhere else to live. Now, many communities provide a host of services to their people. A sudden influx of people, particularly poor immigrants, can bankrupt those public services and eliminate them for everyone.

Although School House Rock is fun and educational, they do not give you all the information in their 4 minute song.

Immigrants 100 years ago had to show job skills, where & who they were going to live among other requirements.

I suggest you do some research beyond a 1970’s song played between Saturday cartoons created by advertising guys.

But if you remember many of the stories about immigration start with waiting in line at Ellis Island as immigrants tried to legally come to the United States. The US is not looking to outlaw immigration. The US is looking to be able to keep up with the flow of people coming in. We have government programs to help people that people who are here illegally cannot participate in. These programs are funded by tax dollars, and many illegal immigrants are not paying taxes but want the help. That is not really fair to those who do work and pay taxes. The government wants to be sure that we can provide for everyone.

the economics are in

deport them - 250 billion once
keep them here - 1/2 a trillion a year and rising (iraq war is 82 billion a year)
freedom - priceless

it's scary you people don't actually take the time to find this stuff out yourself. In a few decades when your taxes are 95% of your paycheck, you can say it's because you don't want to be racist.

Because, unfortunately, people are selfish.

America has plenty to offer... and plenty of space. There is little to no evidence to say that letting others in has done anything but HELP the economy... as they contribute to production, and typically are willing to do the work that no one else is willing to do... but needs to be done.

But all of these sons and daughters of immigrants have forgotton their past and claim that letting these foreigners in is hurting things... when, in fact, it's what built the country.

We needed the cheap labor then. Also people seemed to be more honest back then. They worked and took care of their own. Everybody was in the same boat here back then.

I had no problem with foriegners but certain populations seem to come here with the mindset that its a good place to commit crime, sell drugs and have babies they can't care for. They leach on public services and never contribute and it goes on for generations.

We're inherently afraid and prejudiced, I guess. They take our jobs, and somewhere down the like they end up commiting crimes and raping our children. We like to take people down a slippery slope when we don't know them very well, or have certain preconceived notions of them. It's always been there, but the voice has just become louder in the recent years.
